A Nightmare On Elm Street Collection [7 Film] [Blu-ray] [1984] [2011] [Region Free]

The entire series looks absolutely stunning in 4K. All 7 movies were a joy to revisit, and despite their mixed quality of movies themselves, the restoration here are fabulous. There are no Dolby Vision found on these, but that is not a problem. These 7 films are among the best restored movies I've seen in 4K. All 7 movies have Dolby Atmos. Atmos isn't nothing to write home about, but still they are solid and a welcome addition. Sixth film in the series has 2D & 3D versions both in 4K on same disk. There are 3D glasses included in a box set and I've watched it 3D and it was pretty cool - 3D is definitely present only if for a brief 10 minutes. Few moves also have extended versions available. Overall - this box set is pricy, but a must own for fans of the series. Picture quality is truly 5/5 stars, and sound in Atmos was a welcome addition.

Unfortunately Amazon is lumping my review of the complete series Blu-ray set in with the standalone 4K release of the first film, so I'm editing what I wrote before. The new 4K release of the original ANOES is wonderful. First off, it's uncut, so it includes a few brief, but dramatic moments missing from previous disc releases. The picture quality is excellent for a 40 year old film. The colour grade is much closer to how I remember the film looking on my old VHS. The new sound mix has restored several missing elements from past releases and the original mono mix is included, which is something that all old films should do! I highly recommend the 4K release to all fans. It's a pity there's no updated Blu-ray release available. The extras are much the same a previous releases. Fortunately, the independent documentary, Never Sleep Again is available from 101 Films to provide an in-depth look at the first film and the series. The success of the 4K release of the original film has resulted in a 4K series collection being scheduled for later in 2025. Now back to an edited version of my old review of the Blu-ray set released more than a decade ago... I've loved this series since I was a teenager in the 1980s and 1990s. I saw Freddy's Dead the day it was released in UK cinemas. I owned the DVDs long ago, but in my late 40s I decided I'd like to run through these again on Blu-ray. Amazon had this seven-film set from 2009 going at a terrific price. The films are wonderful, with the first, third, fourth and fifth forming a cohesive story arc, seeing the acting debuts of Johnny Depp and Patricia Arquette, among others, and the directing debuts (or breakthroughs of) Jack Sholder, Chuck Russell (co-writing with Frank Darabont), Renny Harlin, Stephen Hopkins and Rachel Talalay. The films include tremendous, surreal effects work, with practical (pre-CGI) effects from some ingenious inventors, that beat anything computer generated from the present day. Rewatching the films after all these years, I was surprised to find that the fifth film resonated with me in a completely different way, as it has some very dramatic storytelling in the 'real world' and I think it's rather wonderful. The standout performances of the series, other than Robert Englund, for me, were Heather Langenkamp as original final girl Nancy Thompson, Patricia Arquette as the original Kristen Parker (a rather blandly-written character brought to life by a haunting performance) and Lisa Wilcox as Alice Johnson in the fourth and fifth films. Wilcox's performance in both films encompasses an exceptional amount of character development for a genre film and she plays the role to perfection. Alice is without doubt my favourite character in the series. The technical quality of the films on the Blu-rays is extremely variable. The (MPAA edit of the) first film had also recently been re-released in a two-disc set, which is included in the collection, and looks decent. The other films are bundled two-to-a-disc with some old SD extras. Some of the films look great, such as New Nightmare and the fifth film. The third film - often regarded as the best-loved - is disappointingly poor quality, looking like it was sourced from an old print. Disappointingly, these are all the R-rated US theatrical versions, so there are cuts compared with UK VHS releases and old UK TV screenings. It's a mixed bag: dated, relatively early Blu-ray releases that unquestionably doesn't represent the films at their best quality, but until the 2025 4K set is the best current release on the market. Freddy vs Jason and the 2009 Platinum Dunes remake are not included. If you want to see the films before the 4K set in 2025, this is the set to buy!

"then we are gonna put Freddy in the shadows". I'm not sure, but I'm almost convinced this is what the Warner brass was saying to they people assigned to remaster this in hd. What in the H-E double hockey stick are you talking about? Well, as a long time NOES fan, I can say that my memories of these films are that they were always the glossier, better produced horror films of the 80's, especially compared to Friday the 13th and the Halloween films. Glossier is the word for how I felt, most certainly from Dream Warriors on. When I first purchased the NOES 2/3 bluray I noticed while watching Dream Warriors that the picture seemed darker, almost under-exposed especially whenever Freddy was on screen. I remembered the old Media home videos (which I still have!) where Freddy seemed filmed in almost daylight like exposure. Then the bluray comes along and you can't see Freddy as well. I figured immediately that they re-lit them scenes to make them eerier and not have Freddy so over-exposed. So now when he's on screen, it's much how he looked and was lit in the original and it makes the entire scene spookier because of it. Other bd's of older horror films have taken a similar root. A few months back I watched The Evil Dead bd with a girl who had never seen it and it terrified her to the point that it took us literally 3 separate nights to finish it. I watched Evil Dead with at least 100 different people in my life, but always on video and dvd, and I would normally hear that it was gross and very cheesy and dated. No one I ever watched it with found it scary. Now this girl who has never seen Evil Dead finds it intensely horrifying. When I watched that bd of Evil Dead for the first time i felt they changed alot of the color and shadows and made it deeper, darker. I know that's what terrified her. The film didn't seem dated in the right light, mixed with how scary the film is supposed to be, for the first time in my life, I watched it get scare somebody to tears, 3 nights in a row. So now with these new bd's we have Freddy the way we always wanted him. In the dark, in the shadows... Now this sounds great doesn't it? Everybody's favorite dream stalker in a much more nightmarish atmosphere. Well the problem for most fans is gonna be that the original films DID have Freddy lit brightly. He was lit and you could see him as easy and as any leads in the daylight scenes. In order to bring Freddy out of the light, they under-exposed the films and they are now lit in the same vein as The Godfather films. Let's do remember that even if these were glossier than their horror contemporaries, they were still low to modest budgeted films. Under-exposing them makes them look exactly that most of the time. IMO it didn't exactly seem like that to me before now. By changing the lighting of scenes that is technically tampering with the original films and most importantly, changing the films we grew up with. Folks, this series is to me what Star Wars are to alot of you. But I just finished Dream Master, and even though it's darker than I remember, it looked incredible. Having Freddy in the shadows helps taking these films more seriously. The DTS-HD MA is amazing as well. This set literally is a dream come true for me, because when I bought a bd player, I knew I'd have this one day! I just didn't think I'd have to have it shipped from another continent to get it, but that's another story. I would like to take a moment and say also, to those of you who read that the transfer of the of the original is different in any way from the North American transfer, rest assure that's bogus. It's the same. I know because I've watched the US bd at least 50 times since I bought it last year when I made the upgrade to hi def. I watched the boxset bd today and everything is the same, so rest easy if you feel you would like to sell your copy when you get this. So, I'm sure it's clear by now that this is a must have for any Elm st. fan. IF you want to wait for a North American boxset, go ahead. But your gonna have to wait until they our finished selling the next two upcoming 2 packs of the sequels, and then maybe a year after that when the next sequel is being released a boxset might show up. I simply couldn't wait for that! SO remember, Freddy is finally in the shadows again, doesn't that at least sound interesting?

Great product, although no longer comes with a slipcover or 3D glasses. In case that’s a dealbreaker for anyone.

At one point of my life (before the bad Hollywood people came along and did remakes), I actually refused to watch "A Nightmare on Elm Street 1", after it deprived me of 3 days and nights sleep - No word of a lie. However, when they remade the historic movie in 2010, or there about's, I decided to invest in the Collection. Being so long since I'd seen all of these at the cinema, I was under the understanding that there were only 5, but, when watching ever film, one after the other and in order, I realized that Wes Craven did make his own "Nightmare" versions too. Adding to the gore-horror, action and pure adrenaline ride that was escaping Freddy Kruger, I am more than happy with the item and contents. Film Ratings: 9.9/10 - Classic Horror.

Absolute class horrer movie on 4k

Good set of DVDs in one box. A binge watch over the weekend.

So a Nightmare On Elm Street, say what you will about what became of it and the villain of the piece, but here in the original is where it's at. None of your Funny Freddy comedy capers here, no this is more Fred Krueger disgusting pervert dreamstalker and the movie is deadly serious about being a horror movie as opposed to a popular franchise which became of it. Nightmare On Elm Street, for me, is the scariest film of all time. To this day you combine Friday the 13th, Halloween and all the others and still I find this iteration of Nightmare On Elm Street (and villain) much scarier than the rest. The reason for this is I find Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers to be bland, by design of course, but bland all the same. Fred Krueger in this film had a swagger and frightening presence plus the fact that the dream realm is his playground and he can affect it and you how he pleases and of course everyone has to sleep and dream sometime meant that this movie had much more imagination and creativity than most other horror movies I've ever seen, the one exception I would say is The Exorcist which I also own on blu ray (which is also a fantastic horror film). Onto the blu ray itself and the video and audio transfer are both very good upgrades, the movie certainly looks better than ever as one would expect from the format. There are quite a few bonus materials here, featuring 2 commentary tracks. Though I believe these were lifted from previous DVD releases. There's also a Making Of documentary chronicling New Line Cinema's troubles getting this movie off the ground with regards to funding plus the fact that most companies in Hollywood turned their noses up at this film. Figures. There's also 3 alternate endings in the bonus features (none of which I'd seen anywhere!) and they're not wildly different from each other or the actual ending they went with, more slight changes here and there. One thing to note if it bothers you is that the print press on the actual disc is a picture of Freddy Krueger from Wes Craven's New Nightmare iteration, not the version seen in this film which strikes me as odd but I'm not fussy about things like this - some are though. Nevertheless this is a cracking blu ray release, and should be in anyone's blu ray collection. Unless you're not a fan of creativity and flair in a proper horror film.

Ottimo cofanetto, che raccoglie in un'unica soluzione i primi sette film della saga di Nightmare, quelli con il mitico Robert Englund nei panni di Freddy. Manca il remake di qualche anno fa, ma come detto, vuoi perchè pessimo, vuoi perché l'attore è un altro, avrebbe snaturato la natura di questo cofanetto. Non fatevi ingannare dal packaging completamente in inglese o dalla scritta "Edizione Germania": tutti i dischi contengono l'audio italiano e relativi sottotitoli. Rispetto alla controparte italica, manca il fumetto di 24 pagine allegato, ma per questo prezzo, fidatevi se vi dico che è una perdita più che accettabile. La qualità dei film, nel complesso, è più che ottima, la resa HD, tenuto conto anche del girato originale, risalta rispetto alla versione DVD. I capitoli dal 2 al 7 sono contenuti, a gruppi di due, nei dischi 2-4. Il primo disco è completamente riservato al capostipite della saga e al corposo nugolo di extra presenti che sviscerano ogni aspetto della pellicola. Ma anche gli altri capitoli non sono certo da meno: i cultori di questa saga non rimarranno delusi, anche perché il disco 5 contiene ulteriori extra, tra cui risaltano la riproposta (in lingua originale sottotitolati) di due episodi della mitica serie tv "Freddy's Nightmares" e il documentario "Fear Himself". Buona visione e ricordate.. 1-2-3 Freddy viene per te...

Es una preciosidad de edición en steel book con un montón de accesorios. La verdad es que esta versión se la han currado.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection est l'article parfait pour tous les fans de cette serie de films. La qualite des blu ray est parfaite c'est vraimement super de voir ces classiques en HD. Les extras sont complementaires a chaque film avec un DVD supplementaire plein d'extras aussi dont deux episodes de la serie tele Freddy's Nightmares. Et mon avis personel sur le remake, je suis bien ravi qu'il n'est pas inclu dans cette collection. Un nightmare on Elm Street sans Robert Englund est vraiment nul. Mais ce qui est dommage c'est que le documentaire Never Sleep Again n'est pas inclu dans cette collection. Mais bon... Collection parfaite!
