I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to make a Battenburg cake.
Brilliant piece of kit.

OK
This is a nice little tin which makes preparing a Battenberg cake a little easier by cooking the four bars separately rather than having to cut them later. You have to make sure the sides and the panels are well greased to avoid the cake sticking, and I suspect many recipes other than the one supplied may produce more batter than will fit in this pan, but it does what it says it will. Is it worth the expense? I'm not convinced it is, but that's just me. Other people may find this much easier than trying to cut a cake to the right size, but I'm not sure I'm that fussed.

Does the job.
I was quite excited to order this product, and was not disappointed. It comes with a recipe for batten burg on the reverse of the packaging which was a nice touch as I was going to look up a recipe yet this recipe allowed me to make the correct amount of batter. The only negative with this product is that I found washing the tin a little time consuming as the cake mix got stuck in the corners, I may try putting grease proof paper on the bottom next time to stop the mix from entering the corners. On the whole great product that made a really yummy batten burg! (As a slightly different touch I made brandy batten burg)

LINE THE TIN WITH BAKING PARCHMENT - worth the fiddle!
Not Mary Berry so this is GREAT for me! Downside is the anodized surface! Greased and floured with great care but a real pain to get strips out, one stuck etc. will resort to lining with parchment. On the plus side, Super instructions really easy to follow, good basic sponge recipe and an excellent battenburg! Will use paste colouring for sponge next time as ordinary bottled food colouring made pink sponge a grubby brown and line tin! . You learn as you go even with 70years baking experience, you learn on the hoof!

Perfect slices
I now have two of these tins because I have been so impressed with the results. The recipe that comes with the tins works perfectly well as does Madeira.I have found spraying the tins with CakeRelease ensures the cakes turn out easily. You do need to trim the tops of the cakes with a bread knife before turning out to guarantee you get perfect squares - but don’t trim whilst they’re hot; give them some time to cool a bit first.

Fantastic quality - a joy to use.
Excellent quality construction, all the corners are smooth and this makes them really easy to clean. The partitions are removeable so you can do a combination of sizes if you aren't doing a battenburg. I grease the short ends and then line it with a long strip of grease proof paper, by folding it from the edge and over each partition, sticking it down with a dab of margarine on each face. To get the cake out its then a case of gently separating it from the narrow ends and tipping it out, the grease prof paper just peels off the cakes. Beware of overfilling, because the tins are narrow it rises A LOT. My first attempt mostly escaped the tin and was a pain to clean of the oven bottom!

great tin!
Great, I think we've all gone a bit battenberg mad because of the great british bake off!! I love it :-D I made a coffee and chocolate brownie battenberg when my lovely tin arrived, I did have a slight incident that i filled the compartments too high and they overflowed onto the flapjack cooking on the shelf below... but that was not the tins fault and it was easy to cut off the excess !! It's easy to clean too It is more faff icing battenberg than I generally have time for and given that the cake is usually gone on the day I make it it's sometimes easier to make a normal cake/buns... but I do love the tin and there is a certain satisfaction when you create something that friends ask when are going to make it again?!!

We have mainly been eating battenberg cake.
My wife is the cake maker, (I make bread). She has made battenberg cakes in the past using traditional cut and shape methods which cause waste and is time consuming. Since using this tin, the process has been much easier and quicker. The tin is very easy to use and does a good job.
