good stuff
i originally bought the winchester biometric pistol safe and had to return it because, as we all know, biometric scanners are cool and all BUT COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE. as my luck would have it, my scanner completely crapped out on me and i found myself with nothing more than a $350 lockbox. AMAZON took it back and refunded me because they're awesome. then i swooped this one up instead. the mechanical lock is solidly built and works EVERY SINGLE TIME. it was easy to program your code and the mechanism's simplicity allows for relatively quick input of your combo (a big plus during nighttime retrieval). of course it's not as fast as scanning your finger... but that's irrelevant if it works only sometimes.ss far as the physical aspects are concerned, i really liked the winchester biometric because it was deeper and taller. BUT, part of the reason you'd be buying this product and not that one is that the v-line is supposed to be more discreet, so to speak. however, i have a 5 inch KIMBER 1911 and the size of the safe dictates that i place the pistol in a rather awkward position for storage. don't get me wrong, the safe is plenty big to fit my piece and plenty of loaded mags. it just isn't big enough to allow for me to place my pistol length-wise on it's left side for comfortable retrieval.price point is definitely something that would deter someone from purchasing something like this. Because, relatively speaking, it's a rather small storage unit. BUT, the truth of the matter is that (despite its size) there is a lot of workmanship that goes into this product. It's built like a little tank. A dedicated criminal can most certainly get into it if he wanted to... but the amount of time it would take him to detach it from its post is a deterrent in and of itself. I don't have to worry about little curious, prying hands running around my place. but a lot of the people who are in the market for something like this definitely have that interest in mind. I can say that this is a PRIMO safe to address that issue.lastly, shipping speed was phenomenal. I'm in the san francisco area and it was shipped from phoenix. granted, phoenix is not all that far from the bay area. however, i chose super saver shipping at checkout on the 19th - i received the safe on the 21st. a-1 product, a-1 shipping, a-1 experience.

Expensive but worth the price for reliability, security.
This is definitely one of the least sexy options available. It doesn't look like an Apple product, more like something from the 1950s. No electronics. No features. And very expensive compared to the other options. So...why?• Durability - this box is built tanky. It would take a lot of time to brute force your way inside• Security - the simplex lock is time tested and provides enough combinations that it would take too long for the smash and grab intruder to defeat, and the multibutton press combinations will keep kids out as well.• Speed - My access time is just a couple seconds.• Reliability - No battery and a purely mechanical lock means this box will still work as designed indefinitely with zero maintenance.Cost is a drawback, but you'll be happy with knowing your family is safe long after you've forgotten how much you paid for this thing.

Better Than Biometric
The body of the V-Line Hide Away Security System is made up of thick sheet metal similar to that used in gun lockers. Both myself and my wife can access the safe quickly and reliably and there is no issue with lining up our hands to the lock's push buttons day or night, although we do live near street lights so our room is never pitch black. The safe was pricey in my opinion but the other push button alternatives I have seen are toy quality and/or require batteries and some even make beeping sounds. This safe opens fairly quiet but the buttons do make light clicking sounds common to any mechanical push button lock. Using this safe I can get to my pistol nearly 2 or 3 seconds faster than the biometric safe that I had before, given the biometric safe actually worked. Overall the safe is relatively fast to open, quality built, and has a reliable all mechanical combination lock. If you are serious about a pistol safe and likewise are not satisfied with unreliable battery powered novelty safes then I believe you will agree that this is one of the best small pistol safes available.

Great safe for under the bed.
So far this works great. I fell a lot more comfortable having a mechanical lock than a bio metric or electronic. I don't want to find the batteries are dead when I really need it. I did a fair amount of research and I couldn't find anything negative about V-line safes. Some cheaper safes show children popping them open but I fell confident my child won't get into this safe. Some other reviews noted it takes a couple hours to install. Only took me about a half an hour so it was fairly easy. The only word of caution though is that if you have big hands it may be difficult or impossible to put the thumb screws in. My hand are medium size for man and it took some finagling. Also it my understanding this is CA DOJ approved.

Exactly what I wanted, but be careful during installation
This was my 2nd Hide Away safe. It is heavy, thick, durable, and best of all, battery-less! It easily holds two full sized 1911s. I do have some words of caution for installation:1) If you want to install it with the back of the safe flush against the wall - don't. You will need about 1/2 inch of clearance else you won't be able to slide the safe onto the mounting plate.2) If you want to use hex head screws to secure the mounting plate - don't. The hex heads are easy to insert (with a socket wrench), but won't sit flush with the pre-drilled holes and you won't be able to fit the safe to the plate. Instead, use flat head wood or metal screws. For reliable protection against curious house guests, and for (virtually) immediate access, and no worries about dead batteries, get the V-Line Hide Away. You won't be disappointed.

If it has the features you need can’t go wrong.
Quality is good. Slides for tray are rough But functional just fine. Wanted a mechanical lock and quick access for on and off duty. Fit the bill nicely. Price seems steep but plenty of metal in it. Replaced thin bottom of nightstand with 1/2” ply to support it
