Loud, lumpy and green.
This is the modern version of the Green Bullet harmonica mic; I've never used a vintage one but I'm told those are better. What the vintage ones don't have is a volume pot, which is essential for avoiding feedback (howlround) when you're trying to play loud in a modern band situation - unless you want to keep having to adjust your amp. If you're not an obsessive purist, you'll find the 520DX gives you a reasonable approximation of a dirty 'Chicago' sound without losing definition, and it's plenty sensitive enough not to need to be turned full up. It's also rugged, which it needs to be because there's no stand or clip of any kind. It's easy to drop. Some people find the 520DX too heavy, and too big to cup their hands round, so it's not for puny harmonica players. Look elsewhere if it's important to your playing to form an air seal with your hands round the mic.If you're not bothered about absolute authenticity and you have reasonably big mitts, the 520DX does a better job for blues harp than your average vocal mic.
