Absorb the Power
Purchased to ground / neutralize wires for connecting. A few took the current and saved the electronics. Running 48 volt system and this is one of the best preventive items purchased.

Good Quality With Short Leads
They checked out OK, mostly at 148 ohms, close enough. The leads are very short and I had to lengthen them in this application. They DID mention this in the ad, so my fault for not noticing. Hey. I was in a hurry!

Resistance is close enough and can handle a few watts of power
I needed to add resistance to a lower-resistance, center-channel speaker, because the R and L floor speakers were 8 ohms. I had previously tested out several series-resistances in a temporary fixture and 3 ohms gave the best sound balance. I purchased these multi-watt, 3-ohm resistors with "cement" potting/cooling and they were within 5% of 3 ohms and they can handle the power levels (actually the drive current of a few amps, peak, not continuous) that I need. These were obviously hand-filled and show variation in the filling (see photo). Good enough for what I needed.

Ideal for discharging big power supply capacitors
OK you can always use the brute force method of shorting the capacitor out with a screwdriver. But that can be a heck of a lot of energy. Remember that burr you welded onto your prized #2 Phillips driver? It's also not particularly good for the innards of a big value electrolytic that not designed for the massive surge of a dead short. These resistors are cheap enough to be insulated and fitted with an alligator clip on one end and a probe on the other for a more graceful way to discharge capacitors.
