Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you. Drop it, bang it, submerge it... that's what it's for. The hardened resin case is officially shock resistant to standard international benchmarks and water resistant to 200 meters. It also tells time in analog and digital, with alarms, timers and more, ready for daily abuse.

Very nice looking tough watch
Very lightweight and the numbers on the dial are very legible and the digital time is very easy to set up and synchronize. I also really like the rubbery kind of band, which is very comfortable on the wrist and the indiglo lights up nicely at night. Keeps very good time and is one of my favorite watches now. It will satisfy anyone who wants a tough, versatile, good looking watch for a great price.

Great watch, I'd have given it five stars were it not for the small lED display. It's too small for my old eyes to make out other than in the best of light. The fact that it's blocked by the hands for a portion of the time doesn't help. That's all on me, the watch is exactly as pictured and described. The analog display is great, so guess the LED display is not too big a deal. The watch looks like it's "all business" and has a comfortable band. It keeps great time and is easy to set and read. I have other watches, but find myself wearing this one most of the time. It's worth the money.

Great looking, functional watch. Hit for son in Marine Corps. He gets compliments and envy often.
Great looking, tough, easy to read, versatile.Son in Marine Recon has been wearing this since purchased. I almost kept it when I bought it.Nice size, functional looking, and very reasonably priced. Very much prefer this to my GShock analog/digital and would have bought this instead, had I not already owned it.

The manual isn't very good. To switch from date to time on the digital display, you have to press for 6 seconds either the ST or SPL buttons just below the digital display. I pressed and held both. But I didn't find a setting to set the year. So while I was able to set the mm and dd, I don't want to have to handle leap years. Anyone knows how to set the year ?

Not rugged, and not ready for average daily use.
Rugged? Shock-resistant case? No way! It literally fell apart after less than 4 months of normal use. For no obvious reason, the bezel came off completely, never to be seen again. I've had other Timex watches last at least 2-3 years with near daily use and there isn't a scratch on this one. It just fell apart. This was a very disappointing purchase.

No Vibrate Alarm
Decent watch. But the reason I bought it is because of the vib alarm. Although described as having this feature, in fact it does not. It's going back.

Solid time piece.
I've had this watch for a few months now and it has been extremely accurate so far. The second hand hits every hash mark perfectly and it has kept time just as well as any of my more expensive watches. I did replace the band with a black Nato to give it more of a tactical look. It is light weight, though and functional. If you need a work horse watch to get you through the next 5 years of so, stop reading reviews and hit "by now" right now. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Great watch for the money
After ordering the Casio GD350 and returning it, I found this watch to meet all of my needs. The indiglo is great, I love the analog face along with the digital stopwatch, count down timer and date/time. These are the features I wanted the most but I wish the bezel was able to rotate. The casio was a great watch but I really like the "analog look" (watch hands.) This watch is not too big and it is very light, not heavy at all. Overall, great watch for what I use it for and it was $20 cheaper than the Casio GD350.
