It's got the lot.
This is very easy to use. It lasts about twenty hours between charges, but I don't talk on it much. The build quality is good, the unit feels solid and the switches feel good too. If it's anything like the Midland rig I bought in 1977 then it'll last a few years. Changing the battery compartment is easy. Using the rubber duck in the car gets me about 500 yards, using the external aerial is much better but as I'm in a City it's hard to say how far it'll go. The radio is supplied with a carry case, but it's so tight I've not put it all the way on.Using a pair of these as walkie-talkies was pretty much 'line of sight' but we were in a heavily wooded area. It would be good to test them in an open space one day.I live near a motorway and as this radio is multi-band I can listen in to all the different truckers on the motorway. If I could speak their language I'd talk back. Frequencies are..... Italy1 40 AM and 40 FM, Italy2 34 AM and 34 FM, Germany1 80 FM and 12 AM, Germany2 40 FM and 12 AM, Germany3 80 FM and 40 AM, Germany4 80 FM and 40 AM, Europe 40 FM and 40 AM, EC (CEPT) 40 FM, Spain 40 FM and 40 AM, France 40 FM and 40 AM, Poland 40 FM and 40 AM, UK muppet band 40 FM. Most of the AM channels are 1 watt, all the rest are 4 watt. The CEPT channels are the only ones you can legally use all over Europe.Have fun!

I have one as you might know, it's not what i expected, but it is better than the Midland 75-822 handheld 2in1 because the Alan 42 multi band can be used in the UK unlike the 75-822 does not seem to have any activity here.

Midland Alan 42 Multi Handheld CB Tranciever with Accseories review
Very nice little hand held radio, modulation is a bit quiet as reported to me from people I have spoken to with it and the supplied rubber duck gives very limited range. Changing the settings for various countries is a bit of a pain because you have to turn off the hand held radio, hold down two buttons together and switch on again and select the band you want to use and go through the whole process again to change the settings back to uk from EU settings for example. The battery pack that holds the rechargeable batteries only holds enough rechargeable batteries to give 9v for when you are walking around, personally I think that provision for 12 volts would have been better (My personal opinion only)other than the niggles I have mentioned it is a nice honest little radio and I do like it.using the hand held in the car with the in car adaptor and a well tuned aerial I have had respectable results from this radio

Ad a dipole and the sky's the limit, good versatile upgradable coms for familie and friends.
It works great giving good transmit and receive over rough terrain and woodland, so I'm expecting even better results at the coastline, I like the 42multi transceiver because it's compact and modern has good feature's, and it ties in great with my other handhelds, so operating in family situations where coms are needed it's a great addition for outdoor activities, where pmr would struggle this works just fine, and it's easy to upgrade it with a better antenna to gain even further distance between transmissions, ad a dipole antenna and the sky's the limit, cb is not what it used to be the airwaves are fare quieter than year's ago, and you don't need a licence anymore, for familie and friends looking for something to outperform pmr handset's, I think this is the way ahead, plus learning how to build and tune one's antenna is interesting in itself as well, there is no shortage of information on the Internet to do this.

Not impressed really
OK for what it is. Does the job. If you are looking for range, this is not the product for you. Does not put out a full 4 watts. The supplied antenna is a joke, and you will need to replace this for any meaningful use. With the car kit you can use a magmount antenna for better range, or even a homebase antenna, giving much better range. The provided case is too small. Also the modulation is bad, far too quiet. For the money I think you can do better. If you must have a really small portable cb, then it is a good option. If not, spend your money elsewhere.

... faulty LCD and the second one proved to be pretty useless!
1st one I received had a faulty LCD and the second one proved to be pretty useless !. This won't transmit if you're inside a vehicle and not connected to an external aerial - therefore, if you're going to the trouble of fitting an external aerial and fitting the car kit for this unit, then it's highly likely you'd just be far better off buying a standard, permanently fitted CB kit, for half the price .....which will give you a much greater range and work far better. I see this type of handheld is popular with off-roaders and I can see why - I think they must be the only group of people who would genuinely have a need to use the same unit, both connected to a vehicle kit , and outside it in close range, as a stand alone hand held unit - for everyone else, I'd say it isn't worth the headache and extra cost, just to end up with something that's greatly inferior to a standard CB at half the price.

Excellent value for the money - more versatile (and discreet) than a wired in cb set, though perhaps not as powerful. Certainly adequate for the use that I need it for and worked well on its inaugural off-road trip to keep in contact with other vehicles in the vicinity. Bear in mind though that a car acts as a faraday-cage - an external aerial is next on the list!

Brilliant
Works great and does what it says on the tin. I would recommend this without hesitation.
