It works really well.
I read many of the reviews before buying the black Poolmate 2. I was dubious because many of the negative opinions we so critical, mainly one star.I found the instructions clear, the watch straightforward to set up and operate, and it has provided me with exactly what I wanted i.e. a means to count laps, distance, time, and calories. I can now enjoy my regular swims and drift off into that lovely 'zone' without wondering how many laps I've done.I particularly like the efficiency detail, which uses the SWOLF concept to give an idea of well one swims. (I had to look up SWOLF).Finally, the cost: I don't exercise enough to justify the price of some of the alternatives that are available and I only wanted swim info, which is exactly what the Poolmate 2 provides. Very good.

The strap broke after 4 months.
This is the second Poolmate bought in a year and a half and the same thing happened the strap broke, this time in 4 months of use rendering the watch useless as the strap cannot be replaced as it is all in one with the watch.

Basic but effective
This a great item, when you get to grips with it. A bit temperamental at first, but its more to do with getting to know which buttons to press and how hard. However, having used it for a few occasions now, I'm getting more confident with it and the data you can pull off it... albeit that you read and write it all down! With current limitations on session time, I've been able to have a play with the different settings and generally it copes with changes in strokes and training reps/laps. The only real bug=bear is the display when swimming, you just cannot read anything whilst underwater., you can only stop to read laps and time. However so long as you are happy with this then it is a capable tool. One thing which is a bit irksome was the battery level when the watch arrived. It is graduated from 1-6, and it came at only level 4 so I expect sometime in the next few months I will be sending it to Swimovate for a battery replacement which means the advertised run time is NOT accurate. Hope this helps.

Just for swimming
I had messed around with a basic Fitbit that only gave you very limited statistics on my swim calories, steps ect . I wanted something that would count how many lengths and recognise stroke ect. This popped up on a search so I took a chance,I am glad I did . It logs up to 50 swims giving you how many lengths, calories, average strokes, stroke efficiency, rest time and total workout time. It’s easy to set up and easy to use. If your after a device just to measure and record your swimming data then this is it. Good value price wise wise when you compare it to other pricey fitness watches . I would definitely recommend to all you swimmers.

Does what is says on the tin - kind of ...
I can't fault it for counting laps. Initially I kept counting my laps to make sure I didn't get short changed, but it proved very accurate so now I just rely on the watch. Which was the primary purpose of buying the watch. But that's as far as it goes - the watch feels a bit cheap (particulaly the buttons) and the user interface is unintuitive and clunky.

Don't waste your time and money. Buy the Garmin Swim watch.
As a novice swimmer I bought this to keep track of my laps when at the pool as I often lose count. I looked at the Garmin Swim Watch and the Swimovate Pool Mate 2 and decided to buy this one based on the lower price.Unfortunately, once it arrived and I had tried it in the pool I was really unimpressed. It would count some of my laps, but miss loads so it was totally unreliable. Maybe if I was a pro it would have recognised all my laps but that's no good to me.I also found it quite tricky to set up and in hindsight you have to send it to the manufacturer to have the battery changed which would have been a pain.I have since sold this watch on Ebay and bought the Garmin Swim watch. Whilst it's nearly twice the price I have found that it counts my laps every time and is very easy to set up and work. The Garmin Swim watch is exactly what I was looking for and, in my opinion, is far superior to the Swimovate Pool Mate 2. Don't buy this one, spend the extra and get the Garmin, it's worth every penny.

Great watch. Definitly recommended
I bought this for my father for his birthday and he loves it. He goes swimming every day and it has really helped him accurately count his laps. The instructions were aparently a little confusing but he worked it out and has loved using it.

Refunded on day 8
For the first swim, it was perfect. The second swim (so within 7 days of having this product), fog appeared inside the glass and basically made the watch completely useless. I would not recommend and wouldn't even says it qualifies for 1 star. Other than the fog, I found it hard to view due to the display - but would have overseen this if it worked!Dissappointed. Returned the item on day 8 of having this item watch in my possession. You're better of buying a Fitbit and swimming with despite it being not waterproof!!! Hope this reviewed help someone avoid purchasing this item.
