Not comfortable vs prior models
I went hiking three times and each time these hurt feet, a lot.I did walk around and break these in days before. I hike weekly and I have never had this issue with my previous boots. There seem be two issues:1. These are too tight (width), much too tight.2. Cushion is nominal. My previous Altitude IV Hi-Tecs were more much comfortable. These Michelin tire rubber soles seem more durable, but the comforte is comprised, the rubber is harder, as well as the sole padding. The hardness plus the narrowness hurt a lot over 30-45 min of hiking.I wrote Hi-Tec customer service today, but I may not be able to our purchase Hi-Tecs again if manufacturing has changed from previous years, sadly. The shoe is different than prior models for sure.

The Altitude VI is a serious downgrade from the Altitude V
I originally panned these boots in favor of the Altitude IV and V, but I am changing my review. These boots will not die. I bought them 3 years ago, and I have used them almost daily for both hiking and a work boot. These boots will not die. Some slight separation at one seam, but they have held together unlike any other boot I've had. I am changing my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. I will still suggest that you buy a size larger than you think you need, and I wish the tongue was wider but overall I am glad that I gave them a chance.

Great boot, great price
I purchased these as I was preparing for a hiking/rafting trip in Big Bend. I didn’t need waterproof boots for that trip but my other hikes tend to be in wetter locales so I bought these. They are great; lightweight, comfortable, aesthetically decent. They look and perform like leather hiking boots should, and they are a great price. I have always wanted to try Hi Tecs because they seem to offer a lot for the money and I must say these are a tremendous value. I broke them in with a wearing a few days doing some outside work (maybe 10 hours), then hiked 10 miles our first day at Big Bend. Yeah, my feet hurt after that, but that’s because I’m 43, not because of the boots. No blisters, no irregular rubbing. Great ankle support, too. Overall, I would not hesitate to buy Hi Tecs again.

Manufacturing Problems.
Let me first say, I’ve bought this as my third pair of the brand Hi-Tec. This pair developed a manufacturing flaw late in use as the liner bunched up and started causing me problems at the heel. I was having problems with manufacturer’s insole, so went to replace the cheap foam when my heel started hurting. Replaced with Dr. Scholls heavy duty liners and this bump was noticed upon switching the insoles. The insoles aren’t the problems as my right foot is fine. My prior boots, also Hi-Tec had a similar issue with the liner on top, causing me pain as on top near the toes a buckle also formed. I went with Hi-Tec again due to price and also because I owned a third pair I loved till they split a seam. I must say that I am hard on boots, as I hike almost every other day for miles at a time, but thought I needed to share this just because they do have liner issues. Looks like I’ll need to look at other brands, as my feet are my important to my recreational pursuits and hiking is my main recreation.

Great boot, crap hardware
Got these for my son to wear in shop class and for light hiking. Great looking boots, looked good for town and country as it were. Unfortunately, on his way home the FIRST DAY HE WORE THEM (of course), he was skateboarding and the lugs for the string on the upper outside of the boot came in contact with the road. As you can see, the boot isn't even scuffed so it must have been a very light contact, but those suckers sheered right off, rendering the boot useless. I think better quality hardware would not have failed completely and immediately. Or perhaps spending a few extra pennies and using flexible, form fitting eyes like I have on my Columbia's would fix the problem. Anyway, good price for a nice looking boot, I just wouldn't count on them for anything serious. I did not attempt to return the pair that failed, so I can't comment on that.

requires the right insert.
I like that the boot is light and waterproof. Its not as light as a La Sportiva boot for climbing Mont Blanc or the Materhorn but for hiking and work wear its a good quality shoe. My left foot wasnt fitting right, I probably should have returned the boot but I kept fiddling with inserts that I had and got something to work. I put a pair of green Superfeet inserts with the hard backing removed. That pretty much took care of the arch pain in the left boot. They are a narrow boot so if you have widea$$ pontoon boat duck feet, this shoe may not be for you. I say that in all pure jest. I have pencil neck narrow tight a$$ feet. They will keep your fet warm and i like that, as Im always cold. the hooks seem to work well although I dont cinch down my feet until they turn blue. I tried three pairs, these, Grition, and Sketchers. All about the same price point ($70-$80) and these seemed to be the best. Excellent grabbing sole as well. For me, they will last many many years.

Durablity is AMAZING.
Easily the most durable shoes I’ve ever owned. I average 11,000 to 15,000 steps a day at my job so I typically am lucky to get 4-5 months out of a pair of shoes before the bottoms are worn smooth or other components are falling apart. I am at about 4 months on these and the bottoms are in excellent condition retaining at least 75% of original tread. All seams are intact and still very comfortable. I will be ordering multiple pairs when I catch them under $50 again. I’ve been watching they seem to hover from $74-94 in my size 14.

Great Product
Just a little small to wear with thick winter socks. I am sure that with time these boot might stretch out? I've own Hi-Tec boots for years and these are the only ones I've encounter with this issue, possibly I haven't given these boots the time necessary to be broken in?. Everything else is great, the traction is fantastic as well as the water repellency/proof. I will update this review later this winter when I've used these boots enough to indicate any changes.

Very happy feet free advice
I read a lot of reviews about these boots before I purchased and the number one complaint was discoloration of the leather. So as soon as they arrives I wiped them down and sprayed them with winter boot silicone spray I repeat this every other month or so and I have had zero issues with the boots.they fit great they are rugged and comfortable enough to wear all day, they are light but not flimsy or too light the components are holding up well and Ive waited several months before writing this just to be sure Ive used them for hiking for gardening for work and as my daily run around boots to my mind that still look and feel great

great price for quality hiking boots
I have been buying this branding of hicking shoes for 12 years. This particular model is waterproof and the quality of the materials is extremely high.. they support the base of the feet over a range of terrain but i have also appreciated the support they give to my ankles. The suppliers price through Amazon was very competitive and delivery was fairly quick. Very happy with the amazon suppliers delivery and price
