The MUST read of the year
I know it is only January but this book has it all. I read it straight through; often with tears flowing. This is definitely the best book in the series; and all the others have been great.Charlie Gallagher ' s writing has moved on in leaps and bounds. His description of Vince's sister in her final days had me sitting at her bedside. It was so true to life, or death.I hope Maddie Ives goes on forever. Charlie has created a genius to out Rebus Ian Rankin and as a die hard fan of the Edinburgh detective I do not say that lightly.

Thrilling
The title of this book completely drew me in, it’s eerie and I hoped the book would be to.It was a slow starter for me, it’s actually part of a series, however you don’t have to have read the previous ones before this. Although it would help to understand the back story to all the main reoccurring characters.Once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. It was fast paced, clever and thrilling. Although i don’t think it was quite as eerie as the title suggests it was still an enjoyable read and kept me hooked throughout.I liked the twist at the end! I didn’t actually see it coming.

Fast paced and edgy
Absolutely brilliant, fast paced, edgy drama based on an original, solid and interesting story.Murders are taking place, two in a row and the method is odd. At one house a mother is found dead, stabbed multiple times, but her young daughter is alive under the floorboards albeit severely traumatised. It is like the victims knew what was coming, but how or why could they? There is the right level of gore and violence for me, not too gratuitous but incredibly sinister and scary. The plot is ingenious and well developed and the characters are very real and likeable, apart from the bad guys obviously and we also feel an empathy for their situations. I didn’t guess the various twists and was pretty much on the edge of my seat for the whole thing. Wholeheartedly recommend and going to look up more titles by the author.

The Girl Under the Floor
Two separate homes have been ransacked - only one thing connects the bodies: the very same weapon. At the first home, there was an additional complication - the daughter of the victim is under the floor, covered in her mother's blood and nailed in tight. A rare day off for ADI Maddie Ives turns into a horror show as her boyfriend is the first to find the girl, and only she can work out who committed the crimes. This is another great book from Charlie Gallager - I did feel it was a touch slow to begin with, and I guessed who would be responsible quite early in the book. A good book nevertheless, and a 4* rating.

Plenty Of Twists & Turns
Personally I suspect I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the previous books in the series, as I would have had greater insight into the main characters. It begins with a young girl, hidden under the floorboards,. She is deeply traumatised, having witnessed the brutal murder of her parents, and unable to remember anything. This is not the start to the investigation that Maddie & her team would have wished for.Lots of surprising twists & turns but quite an emotional read too.I would definitely have preferred to read the previous books before embarking on this one.

Great read
I loved this book, but as I haven’t read any others by this author, it took a while to place things in the storyline. This aside I loved the characters and the writing style. I will definitely be looking out for this author's other books. I was captivated from the first page. The characters are solid and believable, and the storyline keeps you wanting to carry on reading to find out what happens.
