Sheaffer Skrip - Bottled Ink, suitable for Sheaffer fountain pens, 50ml bottle, purple

The first thing you notice is the great shape of the ink bottle - really modern (just like the colour). I love fountain pens and the inks are vital. This Shaeffer Skrip ink is one of the best for everyday usage, but the purple colour is superb. Talk about having impact! Really smooth and solid (not too watery), it is a pleasure to write with and take time over the presentation of the script.

I have been writing with the same Dunhill AD2000 fountain pen for the last 30 odd years and I can easily tell the quality of an ink by the way the pen glides over paper. This is a good ink and it marks the paper with a solid purple colour. I hesitated with the Waterman equivalent but decided for the Sheaffer. Waterman makes great ink and I particularly like their Mysterious blue ink. I have too many Waterman bottles and I thought I'd try this one for a change. I also looked up Rohrer & Klingner but feel that their ink is of inferior quality to Waterman.

A good all-purpose ink that can be considered a bit 'old fashioned' but is therefore good for all fountain pens, including vintage ones that use rubber filling sacs. Appears not to stain any pens that I have used it in and is easy to clean from pens.It's not too wet, seems not to feather or bleed (depending on the quality of the paper) and is nicely saturated. I'd call the colour a medium-deep purple, far enough away from black to be interesting but not so bright as to be gaudy so can even be used with business correspondence without seeming to look frivolous. Seems to work well even with the fine Chinese nibs as well as the broader European ones.Good value for a 50ml bottle as many of the older inks are. For an interesting alternative to your usual blue, blue-black or black it is a good choice.Sheaffer changed the bottle design some years ago so the new one no longer has the little inkwell filling section but the shape of the bottle with the slightly larger base than the top means it is very difficult to knock over (always a plus). The large opening also means that you won't have a problem getting any pen in there whatever the size.

The colour is a vivid, deep violet, which I love. It is a little thin, so need to re-apply fairly often when writing, but then it writes beautifully.

Absolutely gorgeous, perfect consistency for my pen and how I like the ink. But the most important, the colour is just fantastic. Amazing in the jar! Looks great wet and it dries even better. Really really enjoy this ink
