WOW. Gorgeous Book.
Before I begin, let me state that I do not have a green thumb. Despite being raised on a farm and helping my parents plant their garden every year, I don't do well with plants. I try, but just don't have the knack. But for whatever reason, perhaps my upbringing, I aspire to HAVE a green thumb. So I keep reading, and keep trying. I also want my children to grow up with a love of plants and an appreciation of nature, so I'm always on the lookout for ideas I can share with them.I stumbled across this book and decided on a whim to purchase it. I'm so glad I did. A lot of gardening books that speak of catering to children still rely on you to do the actual gardening for them to enjoy. This book has gardening projects that children themselves can do with some help from an adult. It is an absolutely gorgeous and inspiring book, and let me say that even if I didn't have kids, I probably still would have bought it. This brings gardening down to my level with simple projects that even I could handle with my time and resources. I've just flipped through parts of the book, and just about every page I lay eyes on grabs my attention and makes me want to start NOW. And I'm 41. This book isn't even for my age group (the book is for ages 5 - 12). Lovely book...I'm plotting now and can't wait for spring!

You Don't Have to Be a Kid
I initially purchased this book to get ideas for working with my grandchildren and helping them to learn about and enjoy gardening just as their grandma does. After looking through the book, I discovered that this book wasn't just for kids, 5 -12, but it was written for "kids" of all ages. I had wanted to put in a small bog garden at the foot of a garden that I was constructing on a slope near our house, but found other sources to be a tad bit complicated and labor intensive. The instructions in THE ULTIMATE STEP-BY-STEP KIDS' FIRST GARDENING BOOK for this garden feature were simple, to the point, easily followed, and came together quickly. I now have a great bog garden filled with native Iowa plants that are now in full bloom.I am looking forward to trying some of the other gardening ideas next spring. I would highly recommend this book to any "kid" regardless of age as there are many small projects that would enhance anyone's garden and would just be plain fun to do.

Fabulous Book!
This is a great book for anyone with children or grandchildren! My grandchildren have already (in less than a week) done several of the crafts and experiments. You can't lose on this one! And, you'll get a lot of "granny points"!!

Kids first gardening book
I purchased this book for my 8 year old grandson to donate to his school library as a "birthday club" book, Every child that has borrowed it loves it and several projects from the book have been made. A great book for young children[and adults] who have an interest in gardening.

Excellent book
Nine year old nephew, average reader, serious garden-lover, seems to really enjoy this book. I haven't seen it in person, but his mom says it's great for him.

A great gardening book for children
The fact that most of the models in this book are our grandchildren has nothing to do with our opinion. This is a great book for children who want to learn how to garden. We gave a copy to our library and the librarian said that they do not have anything like it for younger children. It has great photos and simple projects that will excite children as well as adults.

Substantial book
I bought this book to use with my 2 year old son. Its really substantial and starts from the basics which is just what we needed as I know nothing about gardening. Would definitely recommend.

Grandson loved the book. Absorbed in it straight away.
As yet to see the practical outcomes of my grandsons enthusiasm. Hopefully we will be seeing the produce during the spring and summer.
