The best
i started following Jerry on Twitter. At first i thought he was just another snobby critic but, no, as i read more of his tweets, i realized there was much more substance there. He refers to himself as a failed artist and i'm glad he failed for his writings about art and the art world are insightful, impeccable and just great to read. Do i agree with him on everything? No, but i respect what he has to say ie. Jeff Koons, i'm not a fan and reading Jerry didn't convince me otherwise but there is much i do agree with. He has introduced me to artists I hadn't heard of which is great. My only complaint is that I wish there were pictures of the artwork he talks about but then the book probably would cost over a $100. ah! i sat with my tablet ready to google anyone I was interested in! Underneath the humor is a deep thinking about art and life, a rare thing these days imo. Jerry, if you read this, don't get a big head and thank you!

Essential reading for all art lovers
Jerry really captures the seismic changes in the art world since the turn of the century - at both the macro and micro level. Lots of food for thought from a guy who’s been there and is still there!

At last a critic who speaks for all.
If alone this book only contained the critique of David wojnarowicz it would be worth every penny. But thankfully it doesn't it contains a lot more.Jerry Saltz referes to himself as a failed artist. Selfishly, I am not sorry, because the world would not have his books. At last a critic who does not put me of art history by making feel stupid in my lack of knowledge of art ( in a academic sense ). And his recognition and appreciation of artists who even to outsiders would feel outsiders.
