Irresistible Sister Jane novel. Fun!
Sister Jane novels are wonderful; fun, a great mystery, and the animal characters are a delight. Ms. Brown’s four legged characters are always very touching.

Enjoyable
I had read this book before and wanted to renew my acquaintance with it. I enjoyed the read as much the second time as it is a good story and Rita's description of the fox hunting is so vivid. Further down the years I will likely read it again. I love the character of Sister Jane. I'm in her same age bracket. I have read all the other books about Sister Jane and am looking forward to the one coming soon. I recommend the series 100%.

Needs editing!
I personally enjoy the descriptions of fox hunting and the animal conversations but am disappointed by the many factual inconsistencies. For example, the mare Aztec in "Outfoxed" is a gelding in "Hotspur". The fox Target is described as a whopping 16 pounds at one point and as a huge 8 pounds elsewhere. Ralph and Frances marry after the disappearance of Nola and Guy (21 years previously) yet they now have 4 grown children with families of their own! The fox hunters race through an uncut hayfield: any farmer would murder them for doing that! Acorns and nuts fall into corn fields (no trees in cornfields). Dasher and Diana are litter mates except when Dasher is described as Diana's older brother. On and on...The series is fun to read but an editor or a friend or someone needs to read these novels before they go to press!

Tally ho
This series isn't for everyone. Fox hunting is always at the center, because a hunt master is the amateur sleuth. A glossary is always provided. All animals from pets to the hounds and horses to the foxes and local wildlife weigh in with their observations and opinions, which makes for a unique approach. A serviceable mystery

A new outlook from the master of athmospheric writing!
Well - all you cat-book-lovers know it already. Rita Mae Brown is past her feministic action-phase. Now her books are more a detailed description of people characters landscapes and - well - feeling of life in the not so fast lane. She pictures an whole world, a world of traditional values, a world of harmony whith surroundings, animals, people and oneself. Of course - this is a matter of taste. Especially since the mystery takes a back seat in her novels now.I for my part love the feeling of warmth she manages to evoke - I genuinely enjoy her books sitting next to my fireside, cat on my lap and leaving the hectic world outside well alone. I wish her novels were longer.
