Excellent quality
I was a bit alarmed with people saying there's was not flat and true.I trust the brand so ordered anyway, mine is spot on true and flat.Used it on 230 through to 12000 grit stones and it preformed perfectly.Quick word of warning don't use it to bevel the edges of the stone, I now have a neat one millimeter groove down the length of mine. It hasn't spoilt it's preformance, in fact I think it probably helps clear the slurry. After doing eight stones, some of which were quite dished it's still perfectly flat and apart from the afore mentioned groove shows no signs of wear.If you do get a stone that's off flat just take it outside with a bucket of water and rub it on a concrete paving slab, we have some in our garden.. Soon sorts it out, can do your sharpening stones the same way but you risk embedding concrete particles.I've been sharpening for years, over fifty and feel confident to highly recommend this stone.

Very good value
Just one star off for there being no translation available. The little bottle shown on the back in the instructions is a bottle of silicon carbide powder, which can speed up the cutting process, but isn't necessary. I checked the stone with a straightedge and it's perfect. No adjustments were necessary, and it flattened my waterstones quickly and easily.

Excellent and cost effective way to quickly take the cup out of worn sharpening stones.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well this works. Purchased this in order to flatten some water stones and it does a pretty good job of it.Running a straight edge along it, it seems to be as flat as I'd reasonably want for it's intended purpose. The Japanese instructions show an illustration of a bottled liquid being used to lubricate before flattening. I'm not sure if this is intended to be some special liquid but I found ordinary tap water worked just fine for me.Although mine are all 1000+ grit stones, it makes short work of taking the dish out of them. I have yet to try it on my coarser oil stones but so far I'm very happy with it.I'd recommend using it often; before and after a sharpening session as removing deeper dishing will involve you flattening for longer than you'd want and removing more material that you'd need to otherwise.I would have liked for it to have come in some kind of container beyond the cardboard sleeve it comes in, but then again all of my water stones were packaged in a similar fashion so I gather it's not uncommon.I can't yet comment to what kind of lifetime I'm going to get out of it, but from my current experience I have no doubt I'll get my monies worth out of it. It will probably long outlast my need for it.Before and after pictures are linked. The post flattening pic was after about 30 seconds of flattening. Your mileage may very depending on size and grit of the stone you're flattening. Note the slight dish in the middle. I'm sure I could take this out with more flattening but it's good enough for government work.

Careful now, very effective
Bought for smoothing out an 8000 grit stone. After a few minutes I realised I was offset and my stone is now diagonal. Be careful as it's very very effective at grinding.I have use it to smooth out a 3000 grit aluminum oxide razor stone. It didn't appear to damage the Naniwa at all. I have also smoothed out my Lansky mini stones to great effect.

Works as required.
Item delivered on time and luckily in working order. Probably thanks to the bubble wrap that safed the stone. The primary Amazon box was fully open and the tape sealing the secondary box was removed and the box was also open. However, the bubble wrap did it's job and protected the rock. The flattening stone was tested and 1000 king whetstone and did it job.5 stars for the product doing its job but -2 stars for packaging.
