![Coraline / Paranorman / The Boxtrolls [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81zznqZsYRL.jpg)

Triple bill of animated adventures. In 'Coraline' (2009), after moving into her new home with her work-fixated parents, Coraline Jones (voice of Dakota Fanning) teams up with new friend Wybie Lovat (Robert Bailey Jr.) to explore the neighbourhood. Deciding it's just as dull as she thought, she turns her attentions to her own house, where, after following a button-eyed mouse, she stumbles upon a hidden door. Crawling through the passage beyond, Coraline emerges into an eerie, parallel version of her own world. Initially bewitched by her strange new surroundings, where everything seems to revolve around her, Coraline soon has to fight tooth and nail to return home when her new mother (Teri Hatcher) tries to force her to stay. In 'ParaNorman' (2012), Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is ostracised by his family and bullied at school because of his odd behaviour. What none of them know is that he is in continuous dialogue with the ghosts, ghouls, vampires and zombies that prowl his neighbourhood unseen. However, when the town comes under threat from a centuries-old curse, it is up to Norman to save the day. The film also features the voice talents of John Goodman, Casey Affleck and Anna Kendrick. In 'The Boxtrolls' (2014), below the streets of Cheesebridge live the Boxtrolls, a community of cave-dwelling and cardboard box-wearing creatures, who are believed to pose a threat to the citizens of the town and their children. However, in truth, they really pose no such threat and have even raised an orphaned boy, Eggs (Isaac Hempstead Wright), as one of their own. Archibald Snatcher (Ben Kingsley), a local pest exterminator, hatches a plan to get rid of the Boxtrolls for good as a means of securing his place within the town's cheese-loving elite. When the Boxtrolls hear of Archibald's plan it then falls to Eggs to save the day, since he is the only member of the group who can remain undetected on the city streets. He ventures above ground and soon befriends local rich girl Winnie (Elle Fanning), who agrees to help Eggs save his adopted family from extinction... Review: Great DVDs - Very good sets of dvd. Good quality as well. Review: Great value. - Bought for Coraline as the box set of 3 Laika DVDs was cheaper than buying just 1! All discs work fine in UK. Coraline is just simply magical but may scare under 10s as it is dark, like a Roald Dahl tale, whereas Paranorman is good creepy fun that is not so scary.

Great value for money
Bought for my granddaughter. Great value, 3 dvds in one package. First one didn't arrive, but after notifying the seller they promptly despatched a replacement which arrived the next day. Would definitely buy from the seller again.

3D ain't dead, despite the wishes of those that already are!
Can't beat kid's animations in 3D - and the BoxTrolls and ParaNorman fully agree! So will Coraline when I give her a spin! Did 'cut-outs' offended the sensibilities of the 'oh-so-sophisticated'? Get some decent sound amplification to go with it and 3D (preferably animation) really comes alive! Sorry that 'mummy' was scared in case it gave you headaches or overloaded your brain!

3D and not the english versions!
So all three films are are both 2D AND 3D... which was a surprise as there’s nothing on the listing or packaging to indicate this is the case- an added bonus if you like 3D but not for me. In addition they’re not the English version- which is fine for two of the disks as you can change the settings, however the menus on the Boxtrolls disk cannot be changed (you can still watch the film in English) - so it can be fun trying to work out the options! That being said the picture quality and sound are as expected and honestly at the price I’m perfectly happy with them.

I played them in the new Oppo UDP-205, and everything is fine. Including the 3D. Laika films are decidedly different. Though nominally "family" films, they have an adult sensibility. I'm surprised children will sit through them (qv, the highly negative reactions to "Rango"). All lean heavily on fantasy and the supernatural, focusing on the importance of strong family relationships. The problem with fantasy stories is that you can do "anything", without being required to justify it. Where do box trolls exist? What sort of magical universe does Coraline's "other mother" come from? Only "ParaNormaN" treads familiar ground -- people seeing spirits. I find this lack of connection with existing mythology to be a bit off-putting (because it seems somewhat arbitrary), * but others will not. Visually, the Laika films are absolute knockouts. Everything is shown in extravagant detail, as if the artists have a doll-house fixation on absolute accuracy. The stop-motion animation uses conventional DSLRs, which allow immediate viewing as the animator's work. This permits exact positioning that virtually eliminates the occasional jerkiness of conventional stop motion. (No offense, Ray.) Laika's stories play out on large sets, and the 3D makes you feel you've walked into a "real" fantasy world. I've seen all four Laika films, and regardless of the "official" ratings, they should be considered PG. There's an awful lot of strange and scary stuff likely to frighten small children. And "ParaNormaN" is arguably PG-13, as one of the characters reveals he's gay, in a clever line of throw-away dialog. Strongly recommended, even if you're only interested in seeing how good 3D movies can be. * The Grimms' collection of folk tales derives from centuries of European tradition (witches, spells, transformations, etc). "Riders in the Sky" might be American C&W, but it's based on European tales of "der wilde Jagd" (the wild hunt).

Assolutamente soddisfatto!! Come sempre spedizione puntualissima.
