AsGood as Connolly
This was so good I read it in one sitting. Excellent cast of characters & mostly a tight plot. Of course hated that babies were killed & boiled…ugh.

the Pacific Northwest Angle drew me in
The action and the characters grabbed me and held me so rapt that halfway through I had to jump to Amazon to be sure there was a next one in this excellent crime drama series.

Twisty and satisfying Mystery
My ThoughtsI’m really pleased to have found the Thomas Austin mysteries by D.D. Black. I just finished the first book in the series…"Bones At Point No Point". I was intrigued by the chatter about the books and captivated by the setting - the moody and beautiful Pacific Northwest. The author’s descriptive passages impart a sense of place without slowing down the plot by being too wordy or overly poetic. Austin, the main character, is likable and a bit troubled by events in his past, but not to the point that he is excessively damaged. Far too many mystery heroes are characterized as being either alcoholics or womanizers. This protagonist is a refreshing change of pace. Austin is experienced, manly, and insightful, but also fallible. And, of course, he loves his little Corgi. The plot was just twisty enough. The story unfolds with a classic ploy wherein lesser peripheral characters discover the crime. Thereafter, the plot unfolds with tightly written, action packed chapters that could also be a screenplay. Now there's a brilliant idea! The writing is fast paced, character driven, and snappy enough to move the story arc along….a real page turner. I did start to get a sneaking suspicion with regard to the mystery a third of the way through, but my “take” wasn’t exactly right, so the ending was still a revelation.I’ve already started the next book. I plan to read the entire series. I highly recommend. Very satisfying

aaahh, The Pacific Northwest
It is interesting that the hero is an ex-cop with 20 years of experience who switches to owning/running a small cafe ( … and bait shop) in a small town on the Pacific coast. It is a place to relax, but circumstances draw him into helping the local police department with a baby kidnapping case. I like that the plot twists in places. I do recommend this book.

What an enjoyable read!
Perhaps one of the biggest draws of this crime novel is the fact that the setting is in Kitsap County Washington. As a resident of the Olympic Peninsula, I was able to visualize all of the locations. This novel is well crafted and DDBlack was masterful at creating such a compelling plot. I would have loved to see more vivid descriptions and literary devices, but the story is reason enough to read this book in one day!

Gripping
Great thriller, I didn’t want to put it down and as it got closer to revealing the truth I kept putting it down to prolong the time I had with it. I will be buying the rest of his books. Great storyteller.

recommend
If you can get past the part about The Holiday Baby Butcher, this is a well written, action packed mystery. There are surprises and a little romance along the way. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest and knew some of the places mentioned which makes stories more enjoyable to me.

Good story over wordy laborious presentation
As free introductory books go this spent far too much time back grounding. Further it tried to fill out the chase so much so I Just skipped the verbiage and ....oh and the solution is easily guessed well before the leads get anywhere near it. If you need a time filler this is better than some, though I don't like the missed word style...especially the 'of', couple teens is not high American English even!

Exciting Thriller
The Bones at Point No Point by DD Black is an imaginative thriller about one of the creepiest serial killers I’ve ever read about. The book starts out strong and the writer keep us moving at a relentless pace right through to the final startling revelations of who did what, when, and how, which are revealed in an action-packed finale that has us on the edge of our seats. The characters in this story are sympathetic and developed quite well, and the author uses the setting to create a ton of atmosphere. A fascinating story, well-written, and exciting to the final page.

Best read in ages...
Lately I've struggled to find a book that has grabbed me from the start. The minute I started this book I knew I had a new favourite author. I loved the characters and storyline and its' satisfying conclusion. I'm pleased to say I worked out the twist fairly early and there was just enough left unresolved that I can't wait to start Book 2. I cannot recommend this book and author highly enough.
