Venus Hum - Big Beautiful Album!
I must admit that after reading the credits of this inagural CD from Venus Hum and learning that two of the band members list "computers" as their instruments (computer a musical instrument??)- caused me some disdain. Thankfully playing the CD eliminated a lot of my concerns! Let me explain. This is a very fine album with some moments of sheer magical enjoyment and a GREAT mix of styles ranging from dance echoes of LHB, through the equally talented intelligent pop from Frou Frou, with a hint of Goldfrapp, Emilana Torrini and Nina Stordenstam thrown in for good measure. Therein lies my 4 star rating not 5! Venus Hum havent quite settled into one groove yet, each track is very different both in style and pace. Now the highs! Annette Streans's voice and vocal ability are the best I have heard from a new band in years - she has range and injects bucketloads of emotion into her songs -"wordless may" and "Alice" (a brilliant song!)illustrate this perfectly. Other highs inlclude "springtime#2" - a flowing melody backed by not too intrusive or overdone sequencing. "Honey" is another more melodic and slower song (this is were they really excel!) Annettes voice perfectly accompanied by slow stabbing synth and simple, distant drums! Despite the "computer" bit most of the arangements are skilfully deployed and original -I believe that maybe the odd real guitar or piano would have made good perfect! Buy this CD, it is both refreshing and enjoyable - their nexct effort could be a classic! Lets hope that unlike the equally talented Frou Frou they are not caste aside just becasue themusic is "clever".

Sonic, dark & upbeat songs
This is a great album mixing electro-pop with a deeper darker feel to it and the lead singers light, pretty & edgy voice compliments the music well. The music itself is constantly interesting to the ear with strange musical motifs in the background throughout. Don't be put off by the 'electro' descripton of the music, true there's no diguising it, but it isn't at all irritating (the way electro can be) or repetitive; the songs all stand apart from each other & have defined different feels to them.Hummingbirds, Sonic Boom & Beautiful Spain are the definate stand out tracks, but all songs hold their own merit. This is a fantastic album that after the once over will be listened too again & again!

Hum along now!
This is a must have album for any one who enjoys music. This is one album that transcends age, religion, and culture. It doesn't matter what your favourite music is, you will enjoy this album.Funky electronic beats, flowing melodies and the voice of an angel. After going to see Blue Man Group in Buffalo, I was waiting for the main show to start, when out walked these three un-assuming individuals and the music started and I sat up to take notice, but then Annette began singing and I was mesmorized. The music was amazing. Enjoy!

Why are they not famous?
This is an incredible band and an incredible debut album. Why are they not better known? Annette Strean's vocals against a superb electronic backdrop are awe inspiring at times. 'Beautiful Spain' seems to me to be the clear choice for a single release to launch them to fame, yet the record company chose to release 'Montana' in the UK in May 2003. It should make the top 10 if it gets any airplay but there are 3/4 better tracks on the album.

Wow
My sister and I saw Venus Hum at the Blue Man Group concert in DC and I had to buy the cd. I wasn't the only one - they were selling like hotcakes. They were awesome! Annette Strean has a beautiful voice that's as clear as the bells she mentions in my favorite Venus Hum song! I don't just hear the music, I feel it, and it puts me in a good mood. I only wish William's Last Day at Work was on the cd!
