The best of something brilliant
Over the past few years NXT has been the best thing going in WWE world. Good storylines, great matches, enthusiastic crowds and a conveyor belt to the main roster. This Blu Ray release has 23 matches (5 exclusive to the Blu version) and provides a cracking overview of the brilliance the guys and girls have been cooking up. There's also a few comments from various superstars between some of the matches which are mostly interesting and worthwhile. Triple H has plenty to say and fair enough, he is basically the man behind the brand. For those that are interested, this is a list of the content with a few thoughts.......29/08/12 - Seth Rollins v Jinder Mahal - NXT Championship Tournament Final - Straight away its clear that with an NXT crowd we're dealing with a smaller but lively, enthusiastic group. Makes for a great atmosphere for this satisfying, near fall packed match.09/01/13 - Seth Rollins v Big E Langston - NXT Championship - No DQ - A little underwhelming, more about passing the torch than an epic title match.01/05/13 - Chris Jericho v Bray Wyatt - They'd go on to have better matches together on the main roster but this is solid enough.24/07/13 - Paige v Emma - NXT Women's Championship Tournament Final - Now this is good, a fitting way to crown the first champ.21/08/13 - Sami Zayn v Antonio Cesaro - 2 out of 3 Falls - Brilliant stuff. The crowd don't seem that into it at the start but these two suck them in with an electric effort that raises the roof.25/12/13 - William Regal v Antonio Cesaro - A different proposition here, old school mat wrestling and storytelling which makes for a refreshing change. Love it.27/02/14 - Bo Dallas v Adrian Neville - NXT Championship - Ladder Match - The hits keep coming. A sturdy, hard hitting ladder scrap that ticks all the right boxes.29/05/14 - Charlotte v Natalya - NXT Women's Championship Tournament Final - They redid this more recently at Payback 2016 but this is MUCH better. And they leave out the Montreal Screwjob garbage which is a bonus.16/10/14 - Sami Zayn v Tyson Kidd - Another step on the Sami Zayn journey, another quality, fast paced match.11/12/14 - Adrian Neville v Sami Zayn - NXT Championship - Sami's big moment and he nails it. An absolute corker in front of an equally awesome crowd.11/02/15 - Charlotte v Sasha Banks v Becky Lynch v Bayley - NXT Women's Championship- Exciting, original and innovative. Another absolute winner.11/02/15 - Sami Zayn v Kevin Owens - NXT Championship - Maybe not to everybody's taste but good action and some interesting storytelling make for a satisfying whole.05/03/15 - Adrian Neville v Cesaro - Good solid wrestling match with an electric finishing sequence. No commentary by the way for those that care about such things.27/03/15 - Hideo Itami v Tyler Breeze - Arena Cam - No comms here either but you probably wouldn't hear them anyway above the LOUD crowd. This is all shot from one camera (the "arena" hard cam) which gives a different feel to a good, fun match.17/06/15 - Enzo Amore, Colin Cassidy & Carmella v Blake, Murphy & Alexa Bliss - Not a great deal to see here, really just a showcase for Enzo and Cass. Guess they wanted to squeeze them onto the compilation somehow.04/07/15 - Kevin Owens v Finn Balor - NXT Championship - Match of the night from the Beast in the East show. A stirring back and forth scrap which has an important feel to it and a proper big match atmosphere.22/08/15 - Sasha Banks v Bayley - NXT Women's Championship - A stellar effort from both here, rightly talked about as one of the great women's matches.07/10/15 - Finn Balor & Samoa Joe v Baron Corbin & Rhyno - Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament Final - Rather formulaic but lively tag scrap. Then the Blu exclusives......17/10/12 - CM Punk & Seth Rollins v Antonio Cesaro & Kassius Ohno - This starts as a singles match between Punk and Cesaro before morphing into a tag bout that has curiosity value.13/11/13 - Adrian Neville v Corey Graves - 2 out of 3 Falls - Solid and psychologically sound stuff without being particularly memorable.11/09/14 - Paige v Becky Lynch - This is a dark match so the announcers have popped off again for a beer or something. The match is pretty short so in truth there's not much to see here.15/07/15 - Sasha Banks v Charlotte - NXT Women's Championship - This is more like it. You can usually rely on these two and this is another cracking effort.07/10/15 - Apollo Crews v Tyler Breeze - Lively and entertaining way to finish. Bring on Volume Two.

The Future of Wrestling is here!
NXT is a reminder that one of those "Ws" in WWE stands for wrestling. I appreciate the characters and storylines, but they're second to the unbelievable athleticism and work rate that comprises NXT. What you get here is a 2-disc collection containing some of the most incredible matches to occur over the last couple of years. What's great about this collection is that it showcases several different wrestling styles. You'll see high flyers, ring technicians, ground and pounders, but best of all: no 20-minute promos or empty promises. Say what you will about Triple H, but he *gets* it. NXT is a display of his showrunning acumen, and shows you just how good WWE could be if Vince McMahon would release his out of touch death grip on the company and retire. Talk about best for business. It's also worth noting that if you're not a believer in Women's wrestling, NXT will change your perception. Forget all those years of ridiculous cat fights and bra & panties matches WWE shoved down our throats as "entertainment" all those years. Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte are as legit as they come, and rival their male counterparts in every way. Need proof? Skip right to Sasha vs. Bayley from Takeover: Brooklyn, the true Match of the Year from 2015.My only complaint with this collection is that WWE edited out Seth Rollins' Curb Stomp.

Phenomenal Set - Highly Recommended
This is a really great set. Given the title, I did not expect any sort of documentary. I thought it would just be a pure match compilation. So the fact that they've squeezed in a mini-documentary in between matches was a wonderful surprise. As someone who has never followed NXT, every single one of these matches was new to me, despite being a fan of almost everyone included on this set.And so, to finally discover all these great matches that got people talking, finally discovering the greatness of the Four Horsewomen, witnessing Owens' turn on Zayn, it was nothing short of a joy to watch. Despite how short it is, the documentary portion is excellent. I only wish they could have made a full documentary.I absolutely LOVED watching this set. I would recommend this set to any wrestling fan. As the chants in each match go, every single match included on this set is indeed "awesome".

Not only has NXT showcased some great new talent from around the world, it has changed how the WWE Universe now looks at Women's wrestling and many new Divas like Paige, Emma, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bailey to showcase their talents. This new Blu Ray give fans many of the best matches from NXT and the NXT Specials aswell as exclusive interviews from many of the stars and Triple H who helped bring the brand to life.

This is Awesome . . ...
I cannot emphasise enough how amazingly great this Blu-ray is. The matches are the best wrestling matches I have ever seen and the filler in between each match is great, it takes you back to the beginning, from the birth of FCW all the way through to the Finn Balor era. How The Sheild was formed, the beginning of the women's revolution. Matches like Cesaro vs Sami Zayn, Neville vs Bo Dallas ladder match and Bayley vs Sasha Banks. Interviews with Triple H, Matthew Bloom, William Regal and lots of the NXT and WWE superstars. On 2 discs I could have watched it all the way through twice if I had the time. A must buy for any NXT fan.

Excellent look back at NXT but not enough of the earlier years.
A great collection of matches for any NXT fan on Blu Ray.However I would say what prevents me from giving 5 stars is that the earlier years are rather glossed over in favour of when NXT boomed big after the rEvolution special.None the less... matches like Cesaro Vs Sami Zayn, Finn Balor Vs Kevin Owens in Japan and Sasha Vs Bayley at NXT Brooklyn are all worth watching again and again.
