Do i need to put a border around these for my driveway? Or are they "self" edging (if you understand what I mean?) Thanks

They lock together therefore holding their shape! I dropped mine into a shallow hole and backfilled to the edge and then gravelled! They’re good. I was making a seating area in the middle of a wet lawn with a path leading to it so I also edged with a mowing strip. Hope that helps.

Do I need to use a membrane if I am filling with grass? I’m thinking drought resistance would be better without?

There is no doubt that not putting membrane in will help your grass during drought. If you put the membrane down, the grass will never get it’s roots down more than about 2 Inches. What you should do before putting the grids down is to weed kill and remove any dandelion, thistles etc. Good luck. I used their grids and the quality is excellent.

Once the gravel is levelled, does it need compacting ? Or do you just spread and use.

No compacting is needed. I used basalt and it was as easy as placing membrane, then place the grid and finally pouring basalt/gravel onto grid, then use.
