I made my $8 non-smart device act like a smart alarm with this hack
So here's the deal, I built a polycarbonate dome in my backyard. I really love it and it has real furniture, internet devices and indoor rugs in there. 99% of the year, I don't have to worry about anything, no rain, snow, wind can get to it. It's like having an indoor room outdoors, hundreds of yards from my house. It's very comfortable to watch TV, work online, or nap in. It is on an elevated platform and so I thought pretty impervious to flooding, even in heavy rain. I learned my lesson with one particularly fierce storm that left the entire tri-state area flooded in just 24 hours. Only a few mm of water crept in, but that was enough to get under the rug. It didn't ruin anything, but it was a lot of trouble pulling all the furniture and electronics out to dry the rugs for 2 days.Previous to that, I had already tried to buy a smart flood/leak monitor. I got the set from Govee (which ordinarily offers extraordinary smart devices that work great in the dome; I have more than 20), but the leak detector would not connect via their gateway (I have a wifi extender and 10 other smart devices in the dome, so the distance from the router should not have been a problem). Ever since then, I've been searching for another solution to this leak detection problem. What I decided is that I don't actually need a smart leak detector. What I need is one that works and is dependable all the time. For $8, I was not expecting this device to have smart capabilities, just to make noise when it sensed water. It does its job well--I tested it. It is not designed to alert me if I am far from the dome, in the house or even away from home... But I made it do that because I have Alexa in the dome. I just set up a routine. When Alexa in the dome detects machine beeping, it will 1) send an announcement to all Alexa devices in the house to alert me if I'm home, and 2) send push notifications to my phone screen if I'm away from home if there's a flood. Since I work from home, I think this should be sufficient because when I go out, it's usually pretty close to home and I can be back in 5 to 10 minutes. I purchased a whole bunch of flood absorber "Pigs" (look it up on Amazon) to put down if the water creeps close. See screenshots to see how I set up the routine! For $8, it's definitely worth the peace of mind, and this is a great workaround to turn any non-smart alarm into a smart device that alerts you from afar!PS: By the way, I also have an X-sense mini smoke detector from this company, and the Alexa hack will detect and notify if that goes off too!

Works for me!
I recently had a leak from the back of my fridge that was ongoing for about 3 months and had no idea. I had water damage and black mold as the result. After fixing it I wanted to get a water leak detector. I wanted something cheap and this was a really good price. I took it out of the box and tested it right away and it worked and was loud enough that I would for sure hear it anywhere in the house. I dried it off and put it under my fridge. So far it hasn't gone off and hopefully never will lol! It claims to have a 3 year battery life so guess I'll have to update in 3 years haha!

Easy to setup
Really good system. Very good range and very easy to setup with some smoke alarms too. Managed to get alarms in both workshop and house so really pleased. Just a bit tricky to work out the many different options they have. I will be buying more to cover everywhere. Mine has a base station.

Works!
This little alarm actually works. There was a small leak under the sink and yes it did beep VERY LOUD! Yes it performs well. The size is great and the battery lasts long.
