Also, the recommended brand of string had mixed tensions which were high tension basses but medium trebles. For me, this seemed too bass heavy so I decided to try the hard tension EJ46 set. I'm glad I did as these have been excellent. They sound balanced and bright, have lasted well so far, and don't feel much different to play than mediums. And a good price too. Don't forget that nylon strings take a couple weeks to stretch to full tone. These will be my regular choice of string from now on. That digresses - the difference will be in the thickness/weight or 'gauge' of the strings and will dictate the tone you get from the guitar. As these are classical, or nylon, strings the typical average player would probably use light or medium gauge. I have never used 'heavy' or 'extra heavy' though these would give a much warmer tone, but harder on the finger tips for an infrequent classical guitar player like me. The tension on the guitar will be greater for the heavier strings and that needs to be considered in terms of what the guitar manufacturer recommends.If you are, like me, an occasional classical guitar player then 'light' or 'medium' should be about right. Ultimately the choice will be down to what sort of tone you want and that is something you may wish/need to experiment with until you are satisfied with the resultant tone.I like D'adddario strings and think they are very good value for money, although recently I have been trying out Elixir strings on two of my steel strung guitars. Highly recommended. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best so far in my short classical experience *by I***R on 16 December 2018* I've been playing guitar for decades but classical for just one year. I had previously bought some D'Addario normal tension strings but was caught out by fakes. I didn't know that this sort of thing went on, but the set I had was laughably bad intonation-wise. So I was reluctant to trust buying more, but I thought I'd give it a go and I am very pleased I did. These strings are perfect for me, they sound great to my ears and they feel nice and firm under my fingers and no intonation problems.
