Waking the Dead: The Secret to a Heart Fully Alive

The reference to scripture has grabbed my interest to get back to study of the Bible and dive deeper into prayer.

The content on this book spoke to me on so many levels. Awakened my understanding on why I am drawn to a certain lifestyle and life away from chaos and busyness and why that overwhelms my spirit.So much more awakened to the agreements we make with our Enemy, Satan and how we do that unknowingly.I have come to an understanding that my heart needs protecting and I want to continue in my journey to have it uncovered before the Lord, not hidden or veiled.

I have been walking with Jesus for several decades. Nothing has brought more healing and revelation than this book of John Eldredge. All ten of his books that I keep rereading are awesome but this is the best. I keep several on hand to give out as the holy spirit leads.

This book, "Waking the Dead", is a book for anyone who has looked in the mirror and said, "Is this it, God?" John tells us, from the beginning, "No! There is more, so much more that you have been missing in life!"John goes right for the same thing that the enemy goes for - the heart - but he goes for it for God's sake and for yours.A word of caution: Do not read this book if you do not want to be changed. It will change your heart and change your life.

A beautiful and important work…

This is one of my all-time favorites, and definitely my favorite Eldredge book. I just read it again for the third time and was fully engaged with it.A quote and a Bible verse summarize it well. St. Iranaeus said, "The glory of God is man, fully alive." And Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). Eldredge points out that it's no coincidence that those two concepts are in the same verse; we have an enemy who wants to destroy the abundant life that Jesus purchased for us.My favorite quote from the book is this: "The story of your life is the story of the long and brutal assault on your heart by the one who knows what you could be and fears it."If that stirs your heart, read this book!

Powerful clarifying perspective on many of our old ideas made clarifyingly new without changing the old. Eldridge is a voice that should be heard. I have read this book at least 7 times and every time it is new and provides clarity.

We read this book for a church book club, I liked his ideas about listening with your heart for God's direction. He also urged people to be sure to rest and take care of themselves so they could be available to help others. He describes us all as being in a war with the evil one and how that is the cause of all the ugly things that happen in life. I skipped those chapters. His book was good for a club discussion, we all found something positive we could use in our daily lives.

John Eldredge's book Waking the Dead is probably one of the best books I have read. It speaks to the condition of so many of us that believe inGod and yet have been sold out by the religious institutions that are supposed to bring that faith to fulfilment. It starts where people are and leads them to a place that is open, free and full of possibilities. If you are disappointed with the religion you are being taught then this book could be an awakening for you too.

John Eldredge reframes Christian life without religiousity, jargon or the usual American bumpf that gets palmed off as theology. Don't read it if you're into being right at all cost, but if you are genuinely hungry for a real experience of life as it was truly designed to be, then pick this book up in one hand and an NIV Bible in the other and you will be introduced to a life without limitation.
