This is a solid door closer. It's made of steel and not aluminum so it's going to last. It's powder coated in a metallic grey color so it's not going to rust out. It comes well packaged with everything you see in my picture except the ruler I added for size reference. Installation is straight forward using the directions including. Pay close attention to the template and the diagrams of how to position it for various situations. The template has lines that you position to the hinge edge of the door so you know your installing it where it needs to be. The arm is threaded on one end so it can extend out an extra 4 inches for a recessed door. You can mount it with the body on the door or on the door frame. It opens to nearly 180°, depending on how much you preload it. It's got adjustable speeds for closing and latching. So you can set it to close faster then latch slower for a quiet close. I am not sure how heavy of a door this could be installed on but I used it on a heavy glass and wood door to our sunroom and it doesn't have any problems. This is a quality product at a good price and represents a great value. If you need a new closer, stop looking and buy this one.

The closer is compact and appears well made. The instructions were easy to follow and include a reversable drilling template for mounting on doors with either left or right mounted hinges. I highly reccomend this closer and would buy it again in a heartbeat. This replaced a spring loaded hinge and the difference is astounding! It closes my door quietly and completely whereas the spring loaded hinge would either slam the door shut or leave it open a crack allowing mice to sneak in. I avoided this type of closer before thinking it would be too difficult for me to install, but with this unit I could not have been more wrong. The instructions, and more importantly the drilling template, made the job quick and easy. I simply taped the template to the door, marked the screw locations, removed the template, and drilled the holes. Everything lined up perfectly and it was installed and adjusted in under 30 minutes. Initially the door was stiff to open, but after following the recommendation in the guide the door was easier to open and it still took less than 30 mjnutes to complete the job! My wife and daughter (who is no longer startled awake by the door slamming near her room) absolutely love this item, and since the door always closes completely and keeps the mice out, so do I. If this old man can install it, so can you!

I purchased this door closer to replace an older less expensive closing mechanism. this closer is very strong and to date has performed well. It definitely closes the door with a fast swing and a slower swing at the end before latching. It's only drawback is that it is hard to open the door now because the closer pushed back. While this may be good exercise it definitely makes it more difficult to go thru the door with arms full of shopping etc. I is quiet and seems very sturdy. I likely would buy again unless I saw a better option.

So I have two teenage boys who have set up a man cave in the basement. They go through the garage to get there, but they are CONSTANTLY leaving the garage door open. I started looking for something that would close it for them since yelling at them isnt working. I read the reviews, saw that a lot of people complained about the install, or that it was too hard to push open. I figured with teenage boys, eh, who cares they can push a little harder. So i unbox, it all looked very simple. I read the directions, it looked simple. There were also inserts explaining how to redo the install if it is too hard to open. When i found those I said AHH HA! This must be in response to the reviews! But i followed the recommended original instructions and found everyone was right. And now I have extra holes in my door. I blame myself, as much as the manufacturer as i read the reviews, i should have just did what the reviewers said. The only reason i didnt was because it is a heavy door and figured it needed the extra push. NOPE! Ok, so once i installed it a second time the default setting wasnt enough to close the door. So i decided to adjust it all the way up and test it out and would then readjusted it down to the right level. But when I tested it out on the highest speed and saw how quickly the door slammed shut i got an idea..... lets just leave it like this and scare the crap out of my teenagers that caused me to spend 70 dollars (i needed one for the basement door too) all because they wont listen. So pushing harder, and having the door swing back at them will be a reminder everytime they go to their mancave..... worked like a charm. I am now in love with this product. It works great (once you adjust it) and if you choose not to adjust it, it works as an excellent parenting tool. Thank you!

My wife keeps shutting me because I tend to forget to close our bedroom door. In order to solve this issue, I get myself an automatic door closer. Unlike other closers, this FORTSTRONG one is the cheapest but has a slow and smooth closing. Installation was fairly easy and comprehensive by following the user manual and I manage to get the holes and unit installed in 10 mins. But the moment, I gave the door a try. I realized it needs a lot of strength to open and my wife definitely will not be able to open the door on her own. Also, I've realized that my door mountings are going to come off. After reading other reviews, the solution that we came out with was to set the arm far away from the mounting unit. After drilling a couple of holes, it is finally not that stiff for us to use.

I am writing this review 4 years after installation. It works well, no problems at all. The two regulator screws need to be re-adjusted every two years or so. Would recommend.

Needed this to complete a fire door installation in a recently built basement rental. It had o handle a 150 lbs door. Quick delivery, solid feel to all parts. My first impression was it appeared a bit 'small' to handle the heavier door, but this impression faded quickly once installed and adjusted. The instructions are ok, but a bit confusing with diagrams showing different mounting positions but instructions not to clear about them. It would have been nice to know that you cannot really screw in the arm without it being attached to the main unit. But small installation confusion aside, the unit handles the heavy door (on ball bearing hinges) like a champ. The initial settings were a bit too fast swinging and a bit to hard latching as well a few rounds of slowing down both via the screws gave the PERFECT for us results; the door has some expected resistance while opening but not too much for even the the weaker family members, it closes slowly enough to enable carrying long objects through without concern of the door closing in on them while walking through, the it latches softly and quietly EVERY time. Everybody in the house is very happy with this purchase. Would buy again!

the hydraulic is terrible. The hydraulic engages at half travel .Installed .Hard to open would not fully close.Tried to adjust ..The result tore the door trim off . .Hmmph put it back extra nails .Tried again the screws ripped right out of the door trim. Cheap !! Dangerous . All adjustments failed
