Nice Precision Sous-Vide cooker, NO phone or network needed!
The Greater Goods Precision Sous-Vide immersion cooker is a nice addition to my kitchen. I've only given it a few runs so far (a 28 hour beef roast and a 4 hour set of pork chops), but it performed admirably both times. The device is high-powered (1,100 watts), so it brings your cooking bath up to temperature quite rapidly and can maintain the desired temperature easily. The controls are very simple (a single knob/button), and as a huge positive, it does NOT require a smartphone, WiFi network, or Bluetooth to be used effectively. While some other brands can be operated without a network, it is sometimes painful to configure cooking time, etc. without using another device (looking at you, Anova), and being able to set temperature and cook time easily from the front panel was a real joy. The device pretty much guides you through setting the temperature and cooking time, and with a final press of the control button, it starts cooking. The status display has a color indicator to show if it's bringing your vessel up to temperature, when it's cooking, and when your specified cooking time has completed. Since there is a calibration adjustment option available, I decided to check the cooking temperature against a high-quality and recently calibrated ThermoWorks instant read thermometer, and found the cooker was right on (within 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit) straight from the box. If I have to have something to quibble over, it's that once your desired cooking time is reached, the device sounds a periodic alarm to let you know it's done. Since I'm most often cooking things sous-vide that aren't going to be harmed by a little additional cooking (unlike oven baking/roasting, sous-vide cooked food isn't going "burn" if left in too long), I would have liked a way to silence or acknowledge the alarm, while letting it continue to cook (which in fact it does do, complete with a "count-up" timer showing the amount of time past your desired cooking time - so no worries about your cooked food unsafely cooling off if you're not around.) I found the easiest solution to get rid of the "done cooking" alarm was to just hit stop, add some additional cook time to the timer, then restart cooking. Certainly not a deal breaker, but it did make me have to deal with the device a little sooner than I would have if the alarm didn't keep beeping every minute or so. All in all, the Greater Goods Precision Sous-Vide cooker is a very nice product, seems to work well, is simple to operate, has enough power to bring your cooking bath up to temp and keep it there, and doesn't require other devices just to make it work. I like it! -Andrew Note: this is a true and honest review of the product after my real world testing. I was given this product by the manufacturer to review.

Simple and solid!
I love this sous vide! Itโs been a long time since I ordered something on Amazon and it was much nicer quality than expected! This is so nice, itโs heavy and well made, it was even packaged fancy. It is SO simple to use, I did not want or need a sous vide that requires an app, this is simple set temp and time, anyone can use this. I am using it for 36 hr yogurt recipe it is keeping water within 1 degree of set temp! Very happy

Quiet and accurate
This product is currently in use: It's quieter than the fridge and sounds like low coil hum. So it's not silent but comfortablely quiet to the ears. The dial has resistance for easily setting the exact temperature. So no hypersensitive dial making temperature setting annoying. Press down on dial to set timer hour, press again to set minutes, press again to set, and done. It will beep angrily if removed from the water during operation. As of the second test in large flat bowl, the temperature is accurate. Could possibly be 0.5-1 degree cooler since I'm using an analog candy thermometer. The holder works as intended but it's not adjustable. Found the holder elevates the appliance too high in a wide, shallow container with high sides. It's currently leaning inside the bowl and using the holder as a brace (tied together with chord) for the current test. There's a plastic cover on the bottom to prevent the metal shaft from touching the container. Bigger than expected and has some weight like a heavy duty product. No wifi. No directions on how to clean the silver metal shaft. It does collect water around the dial from steam rising up from a stock pot if using high temperatures. Maybe a reason to use a dedicated container with a lid for sou vides. Chose this brand over Nano for quiet operation and the dial. New, so durability is to be seen.

Pleasantly Satisfied
I've used it once so far for cheesemaking to heat and circulate water around a 42qt kettle in a large rectangular container. While I should have preheated the water and the milk (took a long time for the milk to reach just 86ยฐF), the heater did a good job maintaining the water (and the milk) at temperature, and this was 5-6 gallons of water. The device needs an On/Off switch on the top with the other controls, instead of having to unplug it to shut it off. The control for temperature and time is simple and easy to use, with a simple progression of pushes and twists of the large knob to select temp and time, and to select. Swappable to either ยฐF or ยฐC, and adjustable in 1/2 degree increments. I couldn't tell if I needed to set a time for the device to function, so I set a large timespan and progressed on with no issues. Temperature accuracy is good, I checked regularly as accurate temps are very important for culturing milk for cheese. This unit did not have connectivity (Bluetooth or WiFi) as I have no need for them in this application.

Good while it lasted
I got my first sous vide as an impulse buy in the Aldi finds aisle. It worked fine. I didn't like that I had to hit a button over and over again that beeped to set the time and temperature. It died after about 3 years. I replaced it with this one. I loved how easy it is to set with the dial. After about a year the plastic guard around the impeller broke. I fastened it back on with some copper wire. It looked pretty janky but motored on. Several months ago the impeller made a lot more noise than it did when new. It continued to work but it was obvious it was not going to go much longer. Today the impeller stopped spinning. I used this thing a lot (2 or more times per week) so 3 years doesn't seem like too bad of a lifespan. I just ordered an Inkbird that was on sale to replace it. It doesn't have a plastic guard around the impeller so it should at least not have that problem. I will miss the rotary dial. We shall see how long a different brand holds up. Reading several reviews I don't think any of them are going to last much more than 3 years if you use them as frequently as I do!

Great steaks!
I love my sous vide. I would purchase this brand over any other one. I don't like the Bluetooth features on the other brands, this one is so easy to just push the timer, temp, and let it do its job! I did have issues with it being a little loud after the 4th use. I use my sous vide almost every other day. I considered returning it, but gave it another chance, The noise didn't bother me as much and the noise went away. Then it stopped working and my window to return it ended, i was bummed. I contacted Amazon and they were so helpful. They transferred me over to the sous vide company and the customer service rep over at Greater Goods was amazing, she said to add a pinch of salt to the water and would send me another device right away. I received my new sous vide in less than a week. The salt trick did work on the old sous vide by the way. I think it has to do with my water. So, yes, I highly recommend this company and this sous vide. So easy to use and the company and its customer service are one of the best out there!

Sous-vide Review from a First-Time User
I am a new sous-vide user. My goal is to cook good, tasty, healthy meals on my busy schedule. This machine helps me do that. The machine comes in good packaging to prevent damage in transit. I recycled the box. There is a preset to every degree so temp control is precise. The machine makes minimal noise and is easy to store vertically. My first meal with this unit was chicken in barbecue sauce for lunch. After breakfast, I filled a food container with water, attached the lid and Greater Goods sous-vide machine, clipped a pound of frozen chicken breast in the water, set the temp to 165F and let it cook for a couple of hours. When I checked the meat temp it was at 165, cooked and safe. I then put meat in a sealable bowl, added the sauce, and microwaved it for a couple of minutes to heat through. The food tasted good, was easy to prepare, and the left overs went into the fridge for another meal later. My second try was with Spanish Pallela from Costco. The Pallela came in a heavy duty plastic bag perfect for sous-vide. I set up the unit to 165F and the Pallela came out exactly to the directions. Pros: Meal prep is easy. Many foods come in plastic bags and are ready to cook in sous-vide. Sous-vide needs minimal watching, once an hour is enough. Foods cook to temp and do not burn. Clean-up is easy: the machine stays clean. The water and bags get recycled. The sous-vide is part slow-cooker, so meals can be started when convenient and eaten an hour or two later. The machine is fifteen inches tall and about three inches wide so it is easy to store. Cons: None Note: I bought the food container and lid at the same time from other companies, but the sous-vide will attach to any somewhat straight sided container. Disclosure: My sous-vide machine purchase price may be refunded to me for this "test" use, but not the cost of the food container and lid. I tell you true because I don't want to see anyone waste money and the return policy is a guarantee against waste. I think the price point is good and easy for most beginners and I did pay that price out of my own pocket.

Sous Vide Game Changer for Home Kitchens
I use this at least 2Xs a week. LOVE IT!!! Sous Vide is a game changer in the kitchen. It is an invaluable tool to use to make the best vegetables, steaks, fish, chicken, turkey, etc. This particular model is very light, extremely easy to use, fits almost any container, and works exactly as expected. Actually, better than I expected. So much so, we purchased one for our son-in-law for Christmas. If you're looking for a mid priced, compact, easy to use cooking tool that takes your cooking to the next level, this is the one for you!!
