Wooden Reading Rest - Adjustable Cookbook Holder

This is the most perfect, simple and sturdy book holder I've ever had, and I have had a good few in my time. Cant recommend it too highly!

This would have been a five star review but I knock off one star for a slight quality control lapse which is that one of the parts (out of sight) had a noticeable split in the wood - but hey that's what wood is like and it doesn't affect the device at all (and I cant be bothered to send it back for such a small defect - advice to supplier - before you send them out turn it over and have a look at the back as well as the front :-)Apart from that this is a very nice reading rest and if you have some hefty books this is the one to get.... I noticed a one star review on here which was given on the basis that this wont hold a magazine - a tad unfair really as its not designed for that - but for big books it is. To give an idea - a typical dummies paperback fits nicely and the shelf could take larger, a typical magazine is too slim....The shelf on which the book is held is quite wide, and a future design might want to hinge the shelf to accommodate different size books. The other advantage of this design is that it folds completely flat and is easily stored - it looks good too.Overall I'm pleased with this - a competitors product sold in a well known bookshop has stopped selling a wood version of their product - they are all a plastic material so if its wood you are after (personally I think it looks much nicer) this is the one to go for.

I chose this reading rest for my husband roughly a month ago to support his school books as he worked. He had been bending over a pillow in order to read and take notes at the same time, and it was doing his back in. He had just gone back to University after many years, and told me he wasn't sure he could do it under these conditions. In an effort to fix this problem, I researched different reading rests on Amazon for hours before deciding that this one sounded like it would do the job.He told me he wasn't sure this would make a huge difference, though I couldn't help but notice him asking if it came in the post every other day. As soon as it was here, he had the box opened and a book set in the holder. It was insane just how BIG of a difference it made. He immediately went from dreading his work to looking forward to it.The rest itself is sturdy and strong and has a very nice appearance. It easily adjusts to whatever reading angle is needed. One thing I did not know and was pleasantly surprised to find out was that the two holders in the front are actually adjustable and can be lowered to different angles to allow for continued easy reading of books like the one in the picture in which the font goes further down the page.This might be the best purchase I have ever made. My husband STILL thanks me for getting this for him. I would be willing to bet that we will have this for many years, and when he finishes with University, it will become a holder for recipe books, then on to help our children as they are reading and taking notes for school.

This is the very best book rest I have ever found and, being one of those people who likes to read alongside just about everything I do, I've tried quite a few!I have used it to support- my largest cookbook, which makes other book rests fall over,- a thick, very full A4 folder I was working from, which ditto- my broadsheet newspaper, folded to a half page column behind the sink while I was washing up - usually it "flops" unreadably at the sides: not with this baby!- a single page torn from a magazine (recipe),- a thick paperback, which most bookrests can't qu-i-i-i-te hold,- a new, small paperback, still stiffly trying to close up as you try to read it. I thought this rest might not manage to hold something so small open, but it even coped with this.It's the most intelligently designed thing I've ever met with. It offers 3 different angles of support to suit different reading situations; it is widely and solidly based so can support a book (as previously mentioned) behind the sink on a window sill only about two thirds of it's width. Despite the solid support it provides for the heaviest books, it is lightweight and folds flat so neatly I've taken to storing it (on the rare occasions it's not in use) on the shelf, slotted in among my tall books. It is even beautifully made and finished. If you are serious about books, this is DEFINITELY the rest for you!Heartfelt thanks to the makers - my lifelong search for a good book rest is now over.And ditto to previous reviewers, who enabled me to judge, sight unseen, that it was worth the price asked.

THIS IS A NIFTY LITTLE BOOK STAND. I AM CURRENTLY READING A FAIRLY HEFTY PAPERBACK BOOK CALLED 'NOURISHING TRADITIONS' by Sally Fallon AND THE 'WOODEN READING REST' HANDLES IT REALLY WELL - NO WORRIES WITH THE DEPTH OF THE FLIP DOWN BOOK SUPPORT LEDGE OR THE 2 LITTLE ADJUSTABLE FLIP UP ARMS THAT KEEP THE BOOK FROM SLIPPING OFF THE BOOK SUPPORT LEDGE, BOTH ARE MORE THAN ADEQUATE FOR GOOD SIZED PAPERBACKS AND HARDBACKS ALIKE.I USE 'THE WOODEN READING REST' MOST OF THE TIME IN BED TO SUPPORT BOOKS TO SAVE HOLDING THEM BUT WHERE I REALLY THINK IT COMES INTO ITS OWN TOO IS TO SUPPORT MY IPAD.IT'S BRILLIANTLY HOLDS MY IPAD IN PORTRAIT OR LANDSCAPE AND YOU CAN COMFORTABLY WATCH ANYTHING ON 'CATCHUP' WITHOUT ACHING ARMS.TO ERECT THE 'WOODEN READING REST' YOU SIMPLY PLACE IT FLAT ON YOUR LAP WITH THE 'BOOK REST END' NEAREST TO YOU AND FACING UPWARDS. YOU THEN GENTLY LIFT ONE OF THE CORNERS FACING AWAY FROM YOU, AT WHICH POINT THE METAL SUPPORT ARM GENTLY DROPS DOWN AND LOCATES ITSELF IN ONE OF THE TWO 'ANGLE OPTION' SLOTS. THEN YOU SIMPLY FLIP OUT THE BOOK/iPAD REST AND YOU ARE 'GOOD TO GO'!FOLDS BACK INTO ITSELF SIMPLY TOO BY JUST FLICKING UP THE METAL BAR AND IT COLLAPSES FLAT.GREAT LITTLE PRODUCT, NICELY MADE, NO SPLINTERS.
