fast shipping and smooth install
Swapping out my rented FiOS gateway with the one I purchased took about 30 minutes and everything went smoothly and I'm back up and running. I've already gone into my Verizon account and switched to a Customer provided equipment to start the return process. I'll probably keep the rental around for a week to make sure everything is stable. Shipping was super fast. I ordered Friday morning and it shipped same day and arrived the following. The seller must be my neighbor because it wasn't supposed to arrive until the following week at the earliest. Note: Be sure to follow the instructions others have posted to release the DHCP WAN lease prior to disconnecting. I've also kept a copy of the MAC address (unique number identifier) of my rented Gateway before I return it in case Verizon tries to claim my new Gateway belongs to them at some point.

It's over 9000! (meme reference)
I've been using the old gray/silver model ActionTec crappy Verizon router that was always unstable and very sluggish for over a year (I got for free from my parents when I first moved out over a year ago). I AM SOOOOO HAPPY I made the switch to this Quantum Gateway; the difference is like comparing a snail (the old-model ActionTec Router) to a racecar (Quatum Gateway). I used to get about 20/20 UL/DL wireless speeds (while paying for 50/50 internet), and NOW I'm getting 63/56 UL/DL wireless speeds. I regretfully wish I had switched sooner. As other reviewers stated, you need to release the DHCP lease on the Broadband COAX WAN port from the previous router, before enabling it again on the new router. Definitely like this Quantum Gateway, so far no issues and my wireless internet connection is a lot smoother/faster than it used to be.

Excellent Router - Additional Steps for Upgrading from ActionTec
This will work with your Verizon FIOS, but if you are upgrading from an older router, such as the ActionTec, the replacement process is not as simple as Verizon shows on their website. Verizon states to move the coax connection from the old router to the new router, power up the new router, and in about three minutes the connection will complete. This was not work for me. After some research, I found a Verizon support forum which revealed the DHCP lease on the WAN connection must be removed on the old router before connecting to the new router.1. Log into ActionTec router and release the DHCP lease on the Broadband COAX WAN port.2. As soon as you click release, turn off the ActionTec router, before it tries to renew the lease.3. Wait ten minutes.4. Connect the coax connection to the new FIOS Quantum Gateway router and power it on.The router should now be successful in connecting to the Internet. The router itself seems very good. I am getting full Wifi connection speeds on my laptops (one 433.3 Mbps and the other 866.67 Mbps).Note: you will see two SSIDs with this router. One will be FIOS-some code and the other will be FIOS-some code-5G. The 5G is for 5GHz and this is the faster of the two Wifi signals. You should use the 5G signal if your device supports it. My phone, tablet, tv, Roku all supported 5GHz, while my older Epson Wifi printer did not.

Great upgrade to MI-434WR router without the monthly rental fees!
Works very well with good coverage although the range is not really superior to my MI434WR, but connectivity is much better for my networked thermostat and printer, which are rarely offline now compared to before we installed the G1100 Gateway. We also don't have to reset the router due connectivity issues with the G1100, however even though we have good local connectivity, there's still no internet service from time to time, thanks Verizon! The router is much faster as well, although 5G connectivity range is not good as the slower "N" 2.5 GHz and internet service is rarely dropped or loss as with the MI-434WR. We purchased another G1100 Gateway to replaced a rented one at a relative's home at well because it makes sense for cable-cutters too.... two year savings $240 + tax - $90 (purchased new) ~ $160

Decent
I used this for 4 years in an 1 person household and it was decent. WiFi signal wasn’t the best, even in the room above the router my tv didn’t have a good enough signal to stream about half the time, and it barely reached my bedroom on the third floor with sufficient signal for basic Internet browsing. Serviceable if you have a small enough home and won’t have heavy internet needs.
