Great inexpensive cnc for hobbyists
This little CNC is great. I can do a lot of work using different CAD systems to create designs. I especially am enjoying a monthly subscription with Carveco that gives me access to a lot of good tutorials for producing lots of different designs, including things like inlays. I’m also using auto cad fusion 360 with good results. The one suggestion I have is that the provided spindle is pretty weak. I replaced it with a water cooled 2 hp spindle from Amazon and it can cut through anything. The carriage and drives seem to be very sturdy and allows me to get good cuts even with the larger spindle. I’ve also found that sainsmart customer service is great and very quick to send parts if needed.

REVISED - EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SUPPORT - Not worth the money
Below is my previous review. I am changing from a 2 star to a 5 star. This vendor has EXCELLENT customer service! They have worked with me and corrected all my issues. Even though this design has its issues this vendor drives for 100% customer satisfaction. I am very happy with the product now.I own three CNC’s from Genmitsu. This is by far the worst of their designs. The spoil boards are warped. The wiring layout is problematic allow wires to be damaged during assembly. Y axis thumb wheels are worthless. They just bind up. I don’t recommend this CNC. The 3020 pro is a far superior machine.

Just one minor problem that was taken care of
I would highly recommended. I only had one small problem to spindle has slight vibration it must have been slightly bent during manufacturing I called the company and they replaced it right away they helped me with every issue that I had with the spindle and machines up and running and doing very good job at everything I put into it

Don't know why I ended up with this when everyone else got machines
The media could not be loaded. Machine arrived like 4 days late base plates had burs. So I ordered 6040 upgrade so I didn't have to shipachine back and wait for them to ship one back. Upgrade got here with scratched up poles, a broken wire and aluminum plate drill holes were like 1/2 off so box for CPU couldn't mount oh yea and like 4lbs of loctite on setscrews and rod I needed to take off for upgrade . Did I mention playing email tag with customer service for my whole entire vacation 🤦. Was so excited to get this machine just to end in failure. Got mine in a combo special don't know if that had anything to do with it?? Go 4-5 days without hearing from customer service. Thisachine has potential if they keep up with quality control although I never got to see it run. Have to return it after already been x3 weeks wait 30days after return to get my refund and I'm a prime member what a joke. My whole vacation wasted on this and emailing people who don't answer back in a timely matter and Amazon no help what so ever either. U can find my reviews on YouTube under 4040pro upgrade reviews . Had even more pictures butakes me nauseous even seeing them. Buyer beware 🙏

Decent beginner machine
I received the machine in good condition, the packaging was superb,. unpackaged and assembled, clear directions. took around 30 minutes to set up. the software (Candle) that came with it is a bit lacking, but I use G-sender and V-carve Pro. This is my first desktop machine, so I am going to try my best to capture everything I have experienced so far.Pros:Good quality main frame, pretty stiff for a desktopGood packagingGreat customer serviceEasy to assemble with easy to follow instructionsVery quietCons:Extremely underpowered, most bits require 12000 or more rpm to work in optimal range, the spindle is only turning 9000Upgrade parts are almost as expensive as purchasing a new machine( spindles, extensions Etc.) would recommend the 1.5kw VFD spindle or trim router if you will be carving anything thicker than 1/4" pine. The stock spindle struggles to cut though on profile settings, deep v-carves and 1/4" clearing pocket cuts. V-bits and End mills that have a 1/4" shank are unusable with the stock spindle.Very little adjustments to correct Tram and squaringFinal thoughts:The machine advertises that it can cut wood, metal, acrylics and other soft materials, what they don't tell you is that the machine will not cut smoothly with 1/4" bits or anything thicker than 1/4" and that is testing the limits. All in all, it is a good starter machine, a little pricey for beginners, but bear in mind this isn't a commercial machine, if you are doing small carves with minimal depths this is a great machine. If you are seriously trying to carve heavier materials look to the more robust (and more expensive machines). If I can afford to purchase the 1.5kw VFD spindle I will return and revise the review. If Genmitsu/Sainsmart would like to donate the spindle set up, I will put the machine through its paces again, and give another review with the upgraded machine.

Lead Screw Backlash
The unit is great. It was easy to assemble and there are a ton of YouTube videos to help with bringing it online. I intend to carve mostly hardwoods like Maple, Cherry and Walnut. It does a good job using a V bit but the excessive chatter with a 1/4" or 1/8" end mill bit makes a mess of the project when carving pockets or profiles. The unit I have had too much play in the X and Y axis simply due to the play in the spring loaded nuts that are driven by the lead screws. I was able to eliminate that chatter by disassembling the nuts, tapping some existing holes in the floating side to add set screws. This allowed me to carefully tighten the set screw until the backlash was gone but the lead screw could still operate freely. Added some loctite to prevent the set screws from loosening over time.Unfortunately, the spindle motor assembly that was supplied as well as the upgrade spindle with higher rpm also flex too much and the chatter is still unacceptable. The next modification will be to upgrade the spindle motor to a trim router to see if I get the chatter to stop.I'm overall very happy with the unit but I want to improve the performance. For the beginner, Easel Inventables software works great and is easy to use. The first 30 days is free but after that a subscription is required.
