It's a whistle which makes a noise when you blow it. Like all whistles. Hard to fault.

Great for the price and to me it sounded very loud when I tried it out. It seemed to have a very piercing tone different to a standard whistle, although I do not recall hearing a safety whistle before to compare and do not have any rescue experience.

Bright, loud, inexpensive, ideal for purpose. A really useful item, especially for a lone walker. Let's hope it's never needed!

brill, i use it for keeping my scouts quiet very very loud and if you your camping it great for rounding up kids. on the mountain for emergencies probably the best you can get.
