Q: Can anyone say whether cmr's are being supplied now or the worse smr's?

WD Red Plus are CMR, that's what you pay the extra for.

Q: Are these 7200 or 5400? as it says both in the listing

The trouble is Amazon has amalgamated too many variations of model & capacity on one product page, along with their differing reviews, questions and answers. Very confusing. You'd best get your info elsewhere when Amazon does this. However, that said, I understand the rpm speed class of the Red Plus depends on capacity - 1tb-4tb = 5400, 6tb & some 8tb = 5640, most 8tb and all 10tb-14tb = 7200.

Q: These work on windows 10?

It's just a standard SATA hard drive, so yes it will work with Windows 10. Be aware though that it is optimised for operation in a NAS device and if you are installing it in a PC rather than a NAS then there are other WD drives that might be more suitable.

Q: Bought the 8 tb version. from about 3 meters away, i can hear what sounds like a low fan from this unit (spinning platters?). is this normal?

The low noise from repositioning the head is normal and normally depends on fragmentation level. But the fan noise is strange there’s nothing like fan inside. My one is inside the WD NAS box and I can’t hear anything being in the same room 3m away
