Wild Black Ants are a traditional edible insect species in China, being used as a functional ingredient in various tonics and health foods. They are rich in nutrients and have various healthcare functions including regulating the immune system, anti-fatigue and anti-ageing. They are also rich in nutrients such as protein, vitamin E, essential amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids and minerals. Reserves of formic acid within their bodies (which, when threatened, they eject against enemies) means the Wild Black Ant has a very acidic taste. So with that in mind how about celery sticks with goats cheese topping & wild black ant sprinklings, insect caviare canapés, zingy salads or a Pimms with a difference!

Interesting flavour
Arrived promptly and I used them in a chocolate recipe from the sellers website for a bush tucker style challenge which went down well. Reactions ranged from EUGHHH to I thought it was popping candy when they were told the secret ingredient.

Ok for games
Bought as a laugh for daft games. Nothing special but the fact you are eating crunchy ants and they get in your teeth. Haha does it for me

The taste was not bad - tangy and a little vinegary
You get a lot of ants in the small container. The smell when you open it is quite strong, so prepare yourself for that! The taste was not bad - tangy and a little vinegary.
