Finally can connect all my synths at once.
I've been learning how to use MIDI for a while now, and ran up against the inevitable wall of learning that you can not just daisy chain each keyboards or synthesizers MIDI Out port to the next ones IN, and have your messages from the source device continue past the first destination. For that you need a MIDI Thru output, and many modern synthesizers have opted to not include one (though lots let you configure your Out port to act as a Thru instead). Pretty simple to build cheaply if you are handy with a soldering iron and can find a schematic, but it looks like prices are beginning to lower on premade options since I last checked, (was around $60-$70 I think) and it seems much more worth it to me than it used to. This is a neat little device that solved all of my MIDI routing to my hardware synths and controllers. You just insert the controlling devices MIDI Out port to the Thru boxes MIDI In, and you can broadcast the signal to 5 other devices at once. If you need more ports but already have one of these, you can easily daisy chain one of the Thru out ports to the In port of another box for 5 more connections. There is a way to upgrade the box to handle MIDI over Bluetooth, but I haven't tried that yet. Hardware cables are your best bet for lowest latency, but it is nice to have the option.

Excellent unit, great price
This replaced my Quadra-Thru because I needed that extra 5th port. I don't know if the power supply was necessary but since I had additional power supplies available, I've been using it while supplying power to it. It distributes my midi clock from my beatbuddy to 3 loopers, a delay pedal, and a microkorg. Works as expected and fits nicely on the pedal board.

How did I live without you?
I have multiple MIDI devices that I had daisy chained and was getting stuck notes. This simplified the entire setup and solved that problem. I use it with the CME 3 IN /3 OUT box to have flexibility without having to switch cords around. Both require a power source but work nicely off of a USB hub. Build quality is great.

Does the job
Works great no problems

Works as it should
Great little device. Using it to control 5 synths using a single keyboard. Only thing I wish it had is an activity LED on each port so you can visually see if there is midi activity.

Works with Strymon v2 pedals and an HX Stomp.
I bought this to send MIDI from a Line6 HX Stomp to my Strymon Cloudburst, El Capistan v2, and Eventide H9 pedals. Because I had the wrong cables, it initially didn't work with the Strymon pedals. I learned that I had to use a Strymon MIDI EXP cable between the CME Thru 5 and the Strymon pedals. The CME Thru5 does exactly what it is designed to do. I learned this from Strymon's technical support, "Our pedals require a component called an opto-isolator to be present on any DIN -> TRS cable, in addition to having the cable made to send MIDI on the TIP of the TRS connection, and receive on the RING. TRS MIDI Type-A is the most common type of cable out there, which works differently than this, and can cause issues from time to time. This is why we only recommend our MIDI EXP cables, as those meet all of our specifications and will work well."

The CME MIDI Thru5 WC is exactly what you want from a MIDI splitter: simple, reliable, and solidly built. Build quality is very good, with a sturdy metal enclosure that feels made for real-world use, whether in a studio or a live rack. It’s truly plug and play. No drivers, no configuration, no headaches. You plug it in, feed it a MIDI signal, and it just works. All outputs are stable and perfectly in sync, with no noticeable latency or glitches. For anyone running multiple MIDI devices and needing a clean, dependable thru box, this unit does its job flawlessly. No unnecessary features, just rock-solid MIDI distribution done right.
