OLFA 9985 CTN-1 Carton Cutter

Too well designed for it's own good?
Update: The plastic ended up being the weakest link here. The hinge snapped, along with a couple studs, when cutting through zip ties, thus rendering it useless as the blade could no longer be held in place. That's a shame, it felt sturdy otherwise.//This is a quality carton cutter with typical tap knife design. Tap the ends on your hip/shelf/box or whatever to open and close it with one hand. I found it to have good friction out of the box without needing any adjustment. The white outer casing appears to be metal with a hard plastic interior blade holder. It's only slightly thicker and about the same length as other carton cutters of the same style. The construction is solid. Unlike a lot of carton cutters that slot in single edge blades, the blade and it's plastic casing will not wiggle at all. It uses their own snapping blade design that utilizes the entirety of the cutting edge until there's nothing left. No wasted spots. The downside of this is that you have to use their blades, no cheap single edge blades in bulk. While their blades seem to stay sharper longer than the cheap stuff, I can currently only find them in small quantities for higher prices. I won't dock the knife any stars for that though, it's a very good design and up to you whether you want to pay the premium for something like this.

It is well-made and effective at cutting, but there are other box-cutters that are faster and frankly, more convenient to operat
I ordered this just to have a closer look at an OLFA product, and see what the fuss is about.Getting it in my hands, I can attest to the quality OLFA provides, and reassure you that their reputation is indeed well-deserved.It is very well put together. The sleeve is rather tight, which is essential for this design to work. The blade will only be exposed when you want it to.The blade itself is very sharp, and holds its edge for longer, compared to cheap box-cutters.Truly a heavy-duty utility blade. When one section does eventually become dull, it is very easy to disassemble the tool, break-off the dull part, and advance the new blade section.Very compact and lightweight, yet sturdy enough to endure many hours of cutting. The only concern is exposing and retracting the blade. While it is a one-hand operated tool, it is definitely not quick. You have to rest the tool on a firm surface, and push rather hard to expose and retract the blade. If it is going to be in and out of your hands all the time, you will either have to leave it with the blade exposed, or face the hassle of pushing it against a table etc to operate it.This is not such a significant issue for me, but it might be to you.It is well-made and effective at cutting, but there are other box-cutters that are faster and frankly, more convenient to operate. If you are prepared to get used to the -much needed- stiffness of this tool, then it is a great choice.

If you like the design, go for it.
Personally, I think this is not safe to use for an everyday cutter.I liked the design, and how compact it is. As I don't use a cutter every single day.The sliding mechanism is fairly stiff, which is good for not opening it by mistake, or while in pocket.ATTENTION, don't routinely close it with your finger pressing to slide it down. It's meant to be closed by pressing it on a flat surface, like a table. This cutter is very compact, and slim. Your finger can easily slide off to the blade, so always use a flat surface to close it.The blade is very sharp. Good grip. If you like the design, go for it, otherwise look for something else.

Perfect safe knife for cutting cardboard
I bought this knife for work. I work in a warehouse and they supply us with really poor knives and had used this type of knife in a previous warehouse where they supplied them for free. I had kept one with me when I changed job but lost it. So I decided to buy my own.I got this one to fill an order over the required amount of money to get free shipping and I'm very happy with it. It is really safe to use and perfect for cutting cardboard. The blade is extremely sharp! It comes out just enough to cut cardboard or plastic wrap/film and can be snapped off in a few different sections just like the bigger utility knives. If you're like me and work in a warehouse, get this knife!

Super cutter
I like these because you can slide them shut for safety when not in use. The blades are sharp and super easy to replace. I would highly recommend them!

if you break a blade you just snap off the bad one and move on to the next
Fabulous high-end take on the box cutter. Note that you have to order special blades that are sturdier than the usual single-edge razor blades. There are multiple snap-off blade segments inside the cutter; if you break a blade you just snap off the bad one and move on to the next. You'll probably wind up ordering 2-3 because you never know where it was set down the last time.

This is sharp and feels good in the hand
This is sharp and feels good in the hand, but mine is super stiff to open and close. It's stiff enough that I'm worried that while closing it my hand might slip across the blade.Maybe it being stiff is why some people like it, but I don't.

Works perfectly but the fit is tight
This is a great little box cutter for breaking down all your Amazon boxes. The only issue is that the blade is a tight fit in the metal casing, so you need to use some force to get it up and down... be very careful or you may slice your hand open (this almost happened to me). I wish it had a spring or something that made it pop up and down more easily... I would pay a bit more for that feature!

Good for cutting boxes
I bought this at a super cheap price using the Amazon add-on option. I tried the cutter on the Amazon box, and it worked well. What I'm not sure of is whether I would ever buy another. The blade, and configuration - while different than a standard Olfa - really isn't that unique to warrant not buying the standard Olfa and using it instead of this cutter.

Good for cutting cardboard and shrink wrap
We get these to cut shrink wrap and cardboard at work and at first I didn't like these but after a bit I started to love them. It's small so it can easily fit into your pocket and the blade is just big enough to cut easily but not hurt yourself too much if you end up cutting yourself.

Best box cutter ever
Best box cutter knife ever made. Had one given to me with one blade in it 20 years ago when working as a stock clerk. Its thicker and more sturdy than other traditional razor blade types. I just used the last square on the blade the other day and decided to look up some images on google because my knife has no markings pn it and was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem right here on Amazon. Bought 4 and bunch of refills. Should be good for life now!

This is for 1pcs. The heading needs a better description of quantity...
The description is exactly what it says... But it's misleading as to quantity...Similar products have many of the product...for the approximate same price...I thought this was for more PC's.Otherwise it's a genuine knife and blades...
