Fun watch
What if four mental patients are allowed to attend a professional baseball game in New York with their chaperone doctor? What if that doctor left the van to check on something and got robbed, hit on the head, and ends up as an unknown in the hospital? What do the 4 patients do when the doctor doesn't return? I actually bought this film because I knew one of the actors from that film. He's one of the patients (Stephen Furst). He passed away just a few years ago and I wanted a keepsake and I like this movie. Who doesn't like Michael Keaton?

Such a great underrated comedy
So many great comedic actors are put into the perfect roles in this film. I can't say why I enjoy it so much, all I can say is the dream team makes me laugh every time I watch it. Over time I also appreciate that this movie would not be the same if written & filmed today, and I don't mean that in a bad way, necessarily. It just seems as though there was a unique naivetΓ© that the late eighties through the nineties had that gave breathing room for tough issues like mental illness to be approached in a fun way without creating "politically correct" issues or making people offended. It is this aspect that can make good films timeless, even if it remains underrated forever.

I drove the moneylenders from the temple. I can handle a ten-spot.
The Dream Team is directed by Howard Zieff and written by John Connolly and David Loucka. It stars Michael Keaton, Christopher Lloyd, Peter Boyle, Stephen Furst and Lorraine Bracco. Music is by David McHugh and cinematography by Adam Holender.Billy Caulfield (Keaton)-compulsive liar and prone to violent outbursts; Henry Sikorsky (Lloyd)-tidy freak who thinks he's a doctor; Jack McDermot (Boyle)-thinks he's Christ; Albert Ianuzzi (Furst)-near catatonic personality who can only speak in sports jargon. There are people, and perhaps even that little old angel on your shoulder from time to time, that tell you that one shouldn't make fun of the afflicted; case in point folk with mental issues. So it be with this here amusing picture, a film that basically sees four odd balls let loose in New York as they try to find their missing doctor and foil the couple of dirty cops who want to silence said doctor for good. Yet Zieff's film is neither crass or stupid, the comedy is well drawn, with the characters themselves not the danger to society kind, but the misfit sort who are struggling to fit into said society. Looking in at it a bit deeper, film has valid points about acceptance, messages about understanding, friendships and collective group unity being powerful. Even the effects of work pressure is given a sardonic glance. It's not like the makers set out to offend, pic never even sails close to the wind, evidently they clearly set up to entertain and amuse, and that goal is achieved royally because The Dream Team is awfully funny.Does Ed go out of the window? Let's have a show of hands. You can vote too, Ed. This is America. It's a smart collection of actors playing the "afflicted" guys, four actors very comfortable with each other and enjoying the benefits of a strong script. Each one is handed great comedy moments to act out, neither left out and neither disappointing. Boyle arguably steals the film by way of some excellent visual comedy, but it's most likely Keaton's caustic observations and one line zingers that will leave the lasting impression. The final quarter gets a bit mechanical as the intrepid "nut buddies" finally bond and the film shifts to a basic chase/race against the clock affair, but the gags still come and you may find you are still laughing about something that was said earlier anyway! Bracco isn't given a lot to do, which practically renders this as being an ultimate buddy buddy guy flick, and the two "dirty" coppers played by James Remar and Philip Bosco are by the numbers villains. Small moans only, though, and in the name of good comedy, who cares really? It's great to be young and insane! Hell Yeah. 8/10

Dated but still funny
I loved this film the first time i saw it many years ago on a VHS tape. So i was thrilled when i stumbled across it by accident. I immediately ordered it on dvd format and couldnt wait for its arrival. It was so dated but still a Great Funny movie none the less. It really did take me down memory lane and filled me with a rather surreal overwhelming emotional feeling from doing so. Memories from a very distant past that this movie brought flooding back to me when watching it. However those feelings were short lived when i was reminded where one of my many famous (but copied) quote`s came from...That of course being `Group Hug` whilst standing with my arms outstretched. This is a Classic movie and although its dated, that doesnt spoil any of the funny quirks and one liners. That will still make you Laugh Out Loud

Laughs a minute
This is something a nut would do but a good humour side to it and that takes the top awards. Very different to most comedy's with great ideas and marvellous actors to match what more do you want. Plenty of laughs that will have you nearly in tears but every so often it gets serious well tries to anyway. I rated this an A grade plus for sheer fun entertainment that only Michael Keaton could bring to life fabulous story plus the torture of watching this and well worth the pain so sit back put your feet up grab some munchies and relax to your hearts content, a classic worth having a look see before it disappears forever from the shelves. Enjoy!

EXCELLENT COMEDY FULL OF ADVENTURE THAT WILL LEAVE YOU CRAZY
What more can be said about this film but brilliant, four mental patients go on a field trip with their doctor to a baseball game. Only when the doctor goes missing they must go on the run and rescue him from a pair of crooked cops.Billy (Michael Keaton) is a patient that is a pathological liar with a violent streak. Henry (Christopher Lloyd) a neat freak, Jack (Peter Boyle) a former advertising executive who thinks he's Christ. and Albert (Stephen Furst) a near catatonic couch potato.A great movie and certainly worth sitting through an 1 hour and 48 mins for. Great comedy a real classic a movie which shows how a comedy is meant to be done.

Keaton, Lloyd, Boyle and Furst, four psychotics and their psychiatrist are in New York for the big game, what could go wrong?
A light hearted comedy with some great actors portraying a group of colourful characters who've either retreated from everyday society or who are a little too full on to mix in generally and thus need a little help coming back to reality, part of that help is a trip to a ball game by their groups' psychiatrist, unfortunately things do not go to plan and then the fun starts.. It a clever little film in parts, but it is also a film of its time in others however don't let that put you off its definitely worth a watch!
