Storm Calum blew the door off my meter box. No idea how it happened, I suspect the latch wasn't secured the last time the meter was read. Anyway, not knowing anything about meter boxes, I googled it. Firstly, the box was my responsibility and not that of the utility company. A replacement recessed box costs about £25 not including installation costs. Heck even a new door was about £15. So I had a good look at it and found that one of the hinges had come off. I couldn't find it anywhere on the floor or grass. I thought what was the chances of buying a hinge and lo and behold, they do sell them as repair kits on amazon! Anyway, the brass one with a depressible spring loaded end fitted in perfectly and the door is now secure. All for the fraction of a replacement box or door. I still have a spare key, latch and extra hinge that came in the kit. Pros: Quick, cheap and simple repairs Cons: The silver coloured hinge doesn't look to be of the best quality and was shorter than what was required for my type of meter box.

Arrived quicker than estimated by post. All I really needed was a hinge pin. The hinge pin was easy to fit and install. There is one straight metal pin in the box which did not appear to fit anything. Expensive for one hinge pin but a lot cheaper than a new door.

Pins were exact replica of original ones.Took only a minute to replace. Same goes for the latch and the extra key was a bonus and being bright yellow, easy to find. Why did no one think of that years ago? My father in laws meter boxes had been taped up for over a year and looked unsightly, brown parcel tape on white doors stood out like a sore thumb.A few minutes replacing pins and latch have transformed the doors like new for the cost of less than a fiver. Great job well done and a very happy father in law.😊

Just the job. Moved to a new house & the gas cupboard door was hanging off. The lock had been snapped off by some goon with pliers & the hinge was a nail so was flapping about. In the pack you get the top solid hinge pin & the bottom sprung pin. You also get the latch with the barrel (bit you turn) and a snazzy key. All that for a couple of quid.... Much cheapness. An absolute doddle to fit, literally took me less than two mins.you need a pair of plies to squeeze the spring grips of the old latch & a flat screw driver to press in the spring pin hinge. Even my plumber who was changing my boiler at the time was impressed with the kit & has taken the details. It's great when what you order is EXACTLY what you need. Well chuffed. Top banana

This is not a high quality product but it does the job and at the cheapest price I could find at the time. I wouldn’t buy another because when you see what you get for your money, it’s just a bit of a shock.

I got this as the flat I purchased had a broken gas meter lock on it. It was harder to remove the old one than it was to fit this as a replacement and saved me buying a whole new door! Fantastic easy to fit product

I've just moved flat and some previous tenant has half-way destroyed the gas meter box door rather than pay a few pence for a key. The old door was there and a bit of a mess, but the main problem was the catch wasn't there. As the meter also needed repair due to rain etc, it seemed stupid to ignore the issue and keep having problems in the future. This kit didn't (appear to) include the hinge pins shown in the photo (when opened - see later), but did include a metal washer which was not shown but is used when fitting the catch. The catch snaps in place and (along with some duck tape repairs) I now have a good enough door to protect the meter from the elements, at least until I figure out the correct replacement door to buy. The key was of course also included, but just that - the three pieces of the catch (two plastic parts and the washer) plus the key, in a zip-lock bag, posted in an envelope. I only gave 4 stars for value because the parts probably only cost pennies. **EDIT** The pins turned up - on the floor just inside my letterbox (not where I opened the envelope). Maybe the envelope was torn, by now I have no way to check.
