Body Of Lies [Blu-ray] [2008] [Region Free]

Action packed? Compared to Jason Statham? I don't think so. The overall impression was that it's a complex, slightly confusing story with many characters and some action - a torture scene, and, very effective and pertinent, what it's like to be at the receiving end of drones - and what it's like to be at the control end thousands of miles away. It raises the issue of the dubious morality of modern warfare, where people far away, in state-of-the art luxurious surroundings are effectively playing a computer game with peoples lives on the other side of the world - who may be genuine military targets or civilians & innocent bystanders. Additionally, you have a nice contrast between the controller in the Defence Department in Washington, who enjoys his pampered good life while at the same time being in constant contact with his agent on the ground doing the dirty & dangerous work. Talk about a disconnect. The film works well in that it shows the complexity of Middle East politics, the many different national, sectarian, racial groups,all with different allegiances - so that you never really know who to trust and if people are who they really say they are.

DiCaprio just keeps getting better and better as he is now more able to lose himself in a role and successfully shed the pretty. Crowe does well in an understated but dangerously quiet role as a Washington-based puppetmaster. The versatile Italian-Austrian Andy Garcia-lookalike Strong is fantastic as the powerful Hani, while Farahani's face lights up the screen and turns in a memorable performance as well.The attention to detail in this movie is just awesome; the action sequences are not over the top but satisfactory enough to not lose the main storyline despite the complex thread of subplots. Overall, an engaging, intelligently-made film.

This is not a well written book, the whole thrust seems to be little more than a poor expose of the Clintons. There are many other books detailing the Clintons behaviour, which have been well researched and much more comprehensive than this.I was thoroughly fed up with this book by the half way point, the second half was equally bad,

`Body of Lies' is a political thriller set during the Iraq war and with some solid performances from both Di Caprio and Crowe. Following a CIA operative in the middle east who is trying to track down a terrorist this film has enough twists and turns to keep you interested, but not so many that you are left confused and asking too many questions as you go through. This film is very well directed by Ridley Scott and is also very well written; it makes certain points about the Iraq war without ramming them down your throat, which is rare from Hollywood and infinitely preferable to being spoon-fed. There are explosions enough for action fans, espionage and intrigue for thriller fans, political machinations for the more machiavellian and some romance for the softer side in us. All in all a good balance. This film tries to show Americas superior technology and ability to watch who it wants, when it wants, but that may just be good film propaganda and beneficial to the storyline. I tend to take it with a pinch of salt at least. Overall this was a good, but not great, political/spy thriller and the performance from Leonardo alone makes it worth watching. Believable story, well acted. DiCaprio shined ....

One of the best films I have seen for a while. Great characters and the film probably portraying what happens in the real world. Good scenery and well directed by the great man Ridley. Decaprio and Crowe are brilliant! Well worth a watch!

Great film, with a real flavour of the anarchy of the middle east and what our forces have done there for better or for worse
