I hi bon
A great book. I’ve been a Japanese tool fan for many years. Apprenticed by Japanese carpenter in Hawaii. Best teacher of all. If I made a mistake he’d say how did we loose the war. I asked him why he’d teach a white guy. He said that no what I teach you you’ll never be as good as meThe book is outstanding and is full of info. The author knows what he’s talking about

Worth reading, slowly and carefully.
An excellent book that I liked because it gave me some understanding of Japanese planes. After reading the book, I bought a small Japanese wooden plane and with only a bit of fiddling to set the blade I was able to get excellent results that matched my metal plane of similar size that also had a sharp blade. The only adverse comment is that page 143, labeled "Index" is utterly blank except for the title.

Best available coverage of Japanese planes.
This book provides the best explanation of Japanese planes I have seen. This includes a variety of specialty planes in addition to more typical bench planes. These are seldom covered and certainly not in the detail Scott Wynn provides. His coverage of how to construct Japanese planes is excellent and adds to the understanding of planes in general.
