![Dynasty - Complete Season 1-9 [DVD] [1980]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/917-vS6EFFL.jpg)

Collection of every episode from all nine seasons of the long-running American soap following the mixed fortunes of a wealthy Denver oil business family presided over by Blake Carrington (John Forsythe). Scandalous love affairs, dirty business deals, power struggles, catfights and bulging shoulder pads all add to the drama in the show that epitomised the glamour and greed of the 1980s.Season 4 (7 Discs), Season 5 (8 Discs), Season 6 (8 Discs), Season 7 (7 Discs) and Season 8 (6 Discs) offer German language dubbing and German subtitles. Review: Still great viewing - I bought this for my wife for Christmas thinking it would be nostalgic for her childhood, but wasn't totally sure she would watch it all. After first putting it on, my whole family is hooked! It is extremely easy and fun to watch with simple plots, luxury and fashions that may have seemed naff a few years after it came out nearly 40 years on, look great. I love the fact that they are ALWAYS drinking and the women were strong without the modern day rubbish of ramming it down your throat. Men were men and the women were glad of it. Thanks for making gloomy January much more enjoyable. Review: A great buy - This had been highly recommended to me so I bought it to watch after Christmas. It has given me many hours of pleasurable viewing. The glitz and glamour, wheeling and dealing, backstabbing, clothes and jewellery, private jets - lovely. Joan Collins is terrific as Alexis and John Forsyth as Blake Carrington - he of the gorgeous speaking voice - wonderful. This is the sort of fantasy, feel good viewing I enjoy. Well worth the money, in fact thought it extremely reasonable for this box set. If you watched Dallas and enjoyed that then you will certainly enjoy this. Took me many weeks of evenings to get through and had withdrawal feelings when it ended. So I am recommending it onwards.

Great series brilliant box set
A great trip down memory lane. I loved this series in the 1980s . Knocked Dallas out of the ring, however I loved both shows and the Colbys. Would recommend this to all lovers of 1980,s drama, shoulder pads, cat fights etc. Joan Collins ruled this show, without her it would have been bland and boring. A female JR Ewing, but this series showed how the rich live. Unlike Dallas which was weird with billionaires living in one small Texas ranch. Dynasty was the epitome of wealth, wigs, and male actors that look like Barbies Ken. God bless Spelling for bringing in our uk 🇬🇧 Joan Collins.

Dynasty and food
I’ve just started with season 5 and when you watch it like this instead of an episode each week as it was in the 80s you begin to notice how each week was practically the same. For instance Alexis has a glass of champagne in almost every scene, or brandy. They walk-in a room and immediately pour a drink. And don’t get me started on the food. If the people in the show were real and not actors in a soap opera they would starve. Enough food goes to waste that would feed a small country. The sideboard is groaning with it. Then a character walks in ‘only a coffee today, ime not hungry’. Then they don’t even drink the coffee. They talk endlessly in front of plates of food. Untouched. Once in awhile someone will put a small morsel of food in their mouth. But it’s mostly drink. This was at the time a very camp series thanks to Joan Collins great performance as Alexis. And after all I have said it’s still great.

A mixed bag
Having been a great fan of the show in the 80's and while watching reruns in the 90's, I was very happy when I bought this box. Having watched it several times now, I find it to be a mixed bag. The obvious strong points are the compelling and often over-the-top storylines in the early seasons, the great acting, the lavish sets and costumes and, not often mentioned, the great soundtrack - many of the important characters have their own musical leitmotif, that recurs when they enter in the early season, and the score is played by a full symphony orhestra. That alone is a big luxury that would be unthinkable today. However, there are also drawbacks. The show consists of 9 seasons. The first four seasons are IMO brilliant. It has everything you can wish for in a soap and more - strong and interesting characters, some pure-hearted, some villainous, some in between. Strong clashes of interests between characters, dramatic and touching storylines, great love stories - it's all there. Enter hot shot producer Camille Marchetta in season 5 and things take a downwards plunge. Things start happening for their own sake, because it would be touching or exciting or "dramatic" to see, not because it makes sense within the broader framework of the narrative. This also plays havoc with the the integrity of the characters who suddenly begin to behave in ways that is illogical in the context of how they have been built up during the last four years. In season 6 we get back on track, though through the next three seasons, it seems to have been increasingly difficult for the producers to come up with interesting storylines, so they frequently resort to digging up old characters (for instance, in season 7, two characters from season 1 appear). From season 2 when Alexis enters, the core of the show wass Alexis' and Blake's power struggles in the board room and Alexis', Blake's and Krystle's triangular drama on the private front, with the lives of the children as secondary, but still very exciting, plots. After Alexis and Blake rekindle some of their old love in late season 7, the powerful electricity generated from their arguments fizzles out and never regains any real momentum. With Krystle and Alexis faded out during season 9, this core totally disappears and robs the show of what made it exciting in the first place. WIth season 9, the new producer David Paulsen takes the show in a new direction which may have been interesting if you were new to the show but which has got nothing to do with the atmosphere of the show and the essence of its characters. Dynasty is now turned into a crime show, and moments that contain lots of potential for some of the melodramatic fire that used to make Dynasty such a great soap is now turned into lighthearted fun - which is no fun at all. Instead we waste a lot of time on a boring nazi-treasure hunt and on solving the murder of someone who died in the 60's - someone who, we were told in early season 2, only died recently. Watching season 9, it is no wonder that the show was cancelled after this season. The show also suffers from some strange cast changes. When Al Corley was replaced by Jack Coleman as Steven in season 3, his different appearance is explained thouroughly and satisfactory within the frames of a soap opera. But when Pamela Sue Martin's Fallon disappear at the end of season 4, she is later replaced by Emma Samms who, though a great actress, has no physical similarity with Pamela Sue Martin whatsoever - not the same height, figure, eye colour, facial shape, nothing! - and whose attempt at an American accent can be rather painful. Conversely, when British-sounding Catherine Oxenberg left the show at the end of season 6, the new Amanda, Karen Cellini, speaks American - and we are never told why. We are also bereft of Dynasty's ending. 2½ years after season 9 ended, the concluding mini-series "The Reunion" was broadcast, but it is not included in this box. The final drawback is a technical matter: Only season 1 - 6 has been remastered. The last three seasons haven't, and especially the last two seasons suffer for it, with a picture that is frequently flickering between two different colour modes. I have now spoken at length about the drawbacks of the show - so why should you buy it? Buy it because of its great music and leitmotifs! Buy it because of the over-the-top 80's fashion with shoulderpads getting bigger each season! Buy it because of its strong performances from actors like Joan Collins, Linda Evans, John Forsythe, Michael Nader, Diahann Caroll, Pamela Bellwood, John James, Heather Locklear, Pamela Sue Martin, Al Corley, Jack Coleman, Gordon Thomson, Catherine Oxenberg, Terri Garber et al. And finally - buy it to enjoy the MELODRAMA! Buy it to enjoy the bitchy arguments (and sometimes physical fights) between Krystle and Alexis, the scheming of the villainous Adam, the soul searching of Steven, whose homosexuality isn't easily accepted within his family - and much more.

Looking forward to watching this whole series once more/ but not for long ......
Loved this when it first aired on tv and am so looking forward to watching the whole series once more. Beautifully presented and quick delivery too. Many thanks Update : 10th January 2018 : I'm now wondering if anyone has noticed how much has been cut from these discs? We watched Series 1 which was a bit heavy and rather boring. Series 2 began with Blake having been arrested for the murder of Stephen's boyfriend. We looked at each other and wondered when that had happened. The trial was cut to ribbons and when it came to the episode "The Verdict" there was no verdict. We had to watch following episodes to try to work out what had actually gone on. Kristle was pregnant and Alexis had moved in?? who, when, how??? I paid almost £40 for this set and, although my husband continues to watch it because he was working abroad and didn't see it when it was on tv, I just cannot bear to watch it. I am so very upset about the way this has been totally ruined for anyone who remembers the original storylines.
