Estes Model Rocket Launch Set Duo - Rascal AND Hijinks

This is a great (nay AMAZING) kit for kids (and beginners!), goes together quickly, easily, and lets your child be excited on Christmas day - seeing a fully built rocket on Christmas day is literally the most exciting thing a child can ever see. My daughter LOVED this kit and loves launching the rockets.To build it took me 5 minutes to build the lot sitting on my couch, with a hang over and a mince pie, with a very excited little girl very keen to help. Its simple and quick. You do need to have a bit of chat with your child about the dangers associated with the motors - but, quick serious chat, and the rest is easy.We didn't actually manage to launch one of the rockets until recently, and it goes insanely high - its amazing and made me woop out loud like a 10 year old. Some walkers saw us doing it and they too were absolutely bowled over by how high it went - they were with their little boy, who now is determined to be an astronaut!I bought two types of motors (C and B? I believe, not sure exactly the types) and with a type C motor it goes incredibly high - literally a speck in the sky. It is very exciting to launch it and your child will be over the moon, especially when they see the parachute come out. I did not buy the motors from Amazon, as they were cheaper elsewhere (and sold out on Amazon at the time) but they appear to be in stock now.Although the kit comes with everything except for motors, recovery wadding (that stops the parachute setting on fire) and batteries, (so be aware that you also need to buy these things) it doesn't come with instructions on WHERE to launch the thing - so you should think seriously about this. It is not easy to find a location suitable for launch - and believe me, you want to find a nice open space and launch them on a nice quiet not-windy-day. Our first launch was a great success - the rocket launched into a cloudless sunny sky, parachute blasts out, child screaming with delight and on course to be an astronaut .. but the recovery was an absolute failure. The rocket must've blown 1 maybe 2 miles in a LIGHT breeze. We never actually found it.Good job the kit comes with 2, and that others are reasonably cheap - I can't imagine that buying more expensive ones make it more fun. It is incredible to watch the thing shoot into the blue and it won't get old quickly. The motors are probably the most expensive part, but seeing your child's face is priceless!Great kit, amazing experience - and trust me, your child will absolutely love it. These types of experiences are what set them up on building things later in life and instil a sense of wonder in science in them from a young age - so that is priceless.Cannot recommend enough - just don't launch the thing on a windy day!

I have used this a lot with my 12-year-old son. It is fairly straight forward to work out what to do with the motor etc.Needs a decent area because the rockets go really high, and the parachute can carry it some distant - this is our second lot of rockets as we lost 2 in the trees (but did it in a bit of a windy day)! The whoosh as the rocket takes off is fabulous. Although the motors (rocket fuel) are quite expensive it is such good fun, something that you and your children will remember. So tempting to go bigger and higher...... .

Any Estes rocket kit is great fun......used a C engine on one of these and it went so high we lost sight of it for a few minutes.....if you want to get your kids away from the playstation then these are the toys that will do it.

This rocket set is perfect for anyone who is just starting out with model rocket flying. You get 2 rockets, 1 launch pad and a launch controller. But you do need to get the motors, igniters and wadding separate but they can be found on other site. One of those sites is called EliteModels.co.uk.The most powerful motor you can get for these rockets is a C6-7 which can go up to 1200 feet!Also the rockets are reusable so none stop fun until you run out of motors.So great for both starts and families =]NOTE: Rockets motors are filled with gun powder, it can be very dangerous so always have a freind or family member with before launch.

I'm making my own rocket which uses E-class motors but I used these to get a feeling of how they launch. With an A8-3 motor, they both got to about 100 feet and the parachute ejected perfectly at the apogee. I kept increasing the motor size until I got to C6-4 and with a few launches in the right wind direction they'd come back, albeit disappearing into the sky for a while. The parachutes probably slow it down to about 5 m/s but it they land on anything other than grass you'll get a bend in the body tube but for the price and with some open land you should be fine.

Ruined Christmas.Bought for niece & nephew but found out it needs essential parts to actually work. All you get in box is a bunch of cheap plastic. This was not made clear when purchased. Absolute waste of time and money. Furious.

I bought my kids an Estes Rocket two years ago for Christmas. They got a lot of great use out of the one, but it was pretty beat and the parachute no longer worked well. For their birthday, they asked for red and blue rockets. This fit the bill! Great price, two rockets and minimal assembly. The only down side -- both were lost after the first launch! my sons put their most powerful engines in these and the soared incredibly high. However, though the day was almost windless, the rockets could not be found. So I bought another set since the price was so reasonable and now they have three launching pads. We may need to invest in a tracker, though those things are the price of about 5 or 6 of these sets -- so maybe not.

Hadn't fired a model rocket in over 30 years, so this looked like a good place to start over. This kit is an amazing value, since it includes a launch pad, a launch ignition system, and two ready-to-fly rockets. All you have to do is buy some wadding and rocket motors, and you are on your way.We took these two rockets to the park and launched six times without any mishap. The launcher and launch system worked great, and the rockets were recovered safely each time. We only tried A and B engines, but plan to try some Cs next time.Summary:1. No assembly required for the rockets-- just attach the recovery 'chute and insert a rocket engine.2. Launch pad was easy to assemble (5 minutes)3. The launch ignition system worked flawlessly4. All instructions were easy to read and follow5. Lots of fun!Advice: start with the A8-3 engines. The rocket will only ascend about 400 feet, and will be easy to see and recover. We then tried B4-4 engines, and the rocket seemed to travel twice as high.
