Very Basic
I'm giving this game 3 stars because it is a mediocre game. The mechanics all exist... but none are particularly good and nothing important happens in 90% of the story. The plot is literally crammed into the last two missions abruptly.Let me explain a bit further:*Recruiting Yokai is RNG. You can give them food to boost your chance but the recruitment rate is always low and there are limited spots for Yokai to appear so if that time you didn't get it, you have to run around a lot to find it again. Many of the side quests rely on the recruiting being possible and easy, but it often is not, is time consuming, and not easy to get more attempts at.*Crank-a-kal being limited to X times a day, is an outdated feature, especially when it requires items to use to start with.*The exp system is horribly imbalanced. The exp needed for a level vs the exp given per battle is very off because you can be killing B rank Yokai at level 50 and that isn't even enough for a level for a level 13 Yokai. The Exp Orbs are flawed in this way too, they don't give enough EXP to be worth anything. The most commonly found are Medium Exporbs, and they aren't worth enough. You are better off sticking with your 6 high level Yokai than trying to level up an A or S rank to join you, as you won't need them anyway.*I don't understand the point of the bike. I don't know if it actually makes you any faster despite being given to you as if it should.*Fishing and bug-catching are randomised wheels with winning sections that require no skill.*The stamina system is unnecessary as a concept. They literally give you items for infinite stamina. There is no reason why there should be a stamina limit in this specific type of game.*No places are labelled, I literally didn't know where Jungle Hunter was for 90% of the game and it was on the same map section as your house down at the bottom right where you don't have any reason to go otherwise. The mechanics for a game exist here, they're just not good or worthwhile. The music is probably the best feature of the game because it gets stuck in my head. Some parts are also retconned by Yokai Watch 2.The product itself was perfectly fine - functional, arrived safely and easily etc.. The game itself is just mediocre. I'd suggest starting at a later point in the series if you are looking to get into it, for a starting point, this one is not great.

An amazing underdog of the RPG gaming world!
This game is so amazing and underrated! If you're into RPGs and the monster collecting element of games, then this game is for you. It's more challenging than Pokémon in many aspects (for instance you can't choose what your Yo-kai do in battles), but it's also completely different (so please don't buy/ play the game thinking it's similar or a copy of Pokémon). The game play is unique and fun, the characters are adorable and the plot is quite good. I just love how fresh and new this game feels and after finishing my first play through (especially with all the RPGs out there), I'm dying to get my hands on Yo-kai Watch 2 (should be coming out later this year for America and perhaps next year for the EU/ AUS regions). My only disappointment is how quickly you can finish the main game (I managed to beat it in little over 20 hours). I definitely recommend this game for anyone who is a fan of the RPG, monster-collecting genre, as it offers a unique, fun and refreshing experience. I just wouldn't recommend this game for very young players as the game is quite challenging and there is a lot of RNG in this game, especially when it comes to "catching" (befriending) new Yo-kai.P.s. If you buy this game and really like it (like I did), I HIGHLY recommend buying the Prima Guide for Yo-kai Watch - it is jam-packed with tons of useful information, the most important being all the information it provides on each individual Yo-kai (ok, I should have said ghosts, since they aren't technically monsters).

Fun all round
A great game and a series to rival other hand held RPGs, some quests are a tad repetitive but the overall story and game play are fun. It's a children's game so keep that in mind, I've heard a lot of people complain it was to childish but y'know you wouldn't complain because a bee was making honey so don't complain when a game aimed at children is on the more laid back and fun side.

Great game
Played the free demo prior to buying the game and thought was worth purchasing the full game. The game has a good main storyline and fun little side quests to complete. The characters are interesting, I love Japan so it's good to see bits and pieces from Japanese folklore. Quite similar to Pokemon as mentioned in other reviews - if you're a fan of Pokemon then you'll enjoy this game - hoping that this will prove popular enough to get sequels

Good Game
Nice main story that's interesting. Good side quests to keep you occupied after the main game as well. I believe this games would be great for Yo Kai Watch fans.
