Easy and quality.
I used this in combination with the 8bitdo Pro 3 bluetooth controller. Setup was easy. I was worried that I couldn't use the left thumbstick as a dpad for games, reading reviews that earlier firmware didn't translate it right. That concern doesn't need to be worried about, everything just worked. Controller feels SOO much better than the grating vibrating rubber feel of the snes classic dpad.

8bitdo.....those firmwares updates are horrible.
I've used this with an 8bitdo sn30 pro for a few months now and it works great .I love it . the only issue I have is the obscurity of methods to connect the controllers. for some odd reason connecting via the sync button on the controller and sync button on the receiver has this janky issue where it will take forever to connect on startup and disconnect occasionally. to remedy this you have to connect with the controller in X-input mode (with controller off press START + X ) then press the sync button on the receiver and immediately, it connects with no issue or hang. also if it just doesnt connect at all....you have to put the controller sn30pro on firmware version V2.05 and this Retro Receiver on firmware V1.13. Then, press the pair button on the receiver first and simply press the start button on the controller THEN when the controller connects ,hold start to turn it off and press Start + X to reconnect it and the inputs should work . this was a pain in the ass to figure out . I love you 8bitdo but you need to get it together . ;)

Doesn’t connect
I am disappointed in myself for keeping on buying the crappy products of this company. They seem nostalgic and well made and they are but only in those rare circumstances where they work. This product doesn’t. I updated the firmware of the receiver and of all my controllers. I tried every combination of controller mode, with several controllers yet nothing. If I could give less than 1 star I would.

Bought to use with SN30 Pro+ and SNES Classic
I searched on if anyone else used this for a mini but did not find any answers on it so Ill share my experience. I bought this so i could use a controller to play. As for the 8bitdo controller, once I plugged it into my SNES classic I just had to press the button on the reciever, and the start button on my 8bitdo controller. Instantly connected and started working. What more can I say, if you want to get this for the SNES/NES Classic Mini, this is what you need! Have not tried to connect other controllers though. Ok : After using this for a few hours I have one gripe with it One downside of this product is the sync button is SO SMALL. when you plug it into your SNES Classic it kind of wiggles around and feels loose. When you try to press this TINY sync button, I feel almost as if I am going to break the reciever or the port itself. I also fumbled around trying to update the firmware on my PC since the button was so small I was trying to hold onto it while inserting it into the USB port, it was quite painful to do. I think they should make this button slightly bigger. The Long design of the unit also makes it feel flimsy when plugged into the SNES Classic and feel not very sturdy. If they ever revise this or even read our reviews, I think maybe they want to design it to be shorter so it doesnt feel like the port will break from us just pressing the sync button. But I would assume most people just sync once and forget about it so they wont touch the receiver often. For me I had the issue since I was trying to use the controllers both for my PC and the SNES classic

Designed to work with authentic hardware.
For those of you that said this product doesn’t work with the NES OR SNES classic mini is because you got a fake or replica console. Originally bought one because I saw some reviews. I tested it with my SNES Nintendo online controllers and they work flawlessly. I also tested the adaptors with a Mac via the USB cable and the controller remain paired to the adapter. Search online so that you can ensure that you’re using an authentic console. There are treads on Reddit where you can ensure you have an authentic one.

Works great with SNES Classic Mini, but be sure your controller is compatible!!!
I originally bought this to connect my Xbox or Switch controllers to my SNES Classic Mini. I should have paid more attention to the reviews noting that it wouldn't work on Xbox controllers with recent (post 2021) firmware. So the Xbox Series X controllers were out, but I figured I might get lucky my Switch controller. Turns out it wouldn't work because it was a Power-A controller and not supported (A first party Nintendo controller likely would have worked, but I didn't have one). Frustrated, I next tried my Xbox One controllers. No luck, as these have post 2021 firmware, which switched them to Bluetooth Low Energy. Next, I tried my old Xbox 360 controllers, but forgot that they use a proprietary wireless format so those didn't work either. So I ended up doing some research and bought a 8BitDo Ultimate C controller which worked perfectly. According to Grok, the newer Ultimate 2C controllers won't work with this adapter, so be warned. Once it was up and running, it works great, no lag or dropout. Just a frustrating experience...so I hope this review saves someone some frustration 😁

A great item that solves the greatest flaw in the SNES classic
One of the biggest problems with the SNES classic (and NES classic but I don't have one) is the short controller cables. It is highly impractical to play and sit so close to the TV. This receiver solves that problem and allows you to use a large number of controllers with the system. I have now dedicated an unused PS3 controller as my primary SNES controller and it works perfectly. When the receiver was first released the buttons weren't mapped correctly on the PS3 controller so I would not have recommended this at that time. Since then they've put out a new update for the receiver and it's perfect. If you buy this item, make sure to update its firmware before using it. As an added bonus, this receiver allows you to go back to the SNES menu by pressing down + select on the controller. You can't do that with the pack-in SNES controllers and must actually get up to press the reset button on the system. At the end of the day, the SNES controllers as they're included with the classic console are not practical. That leaves you with two options: buying controller extension cables or buying a wireless receiver like this one. I actually have both and both are good options. I like to use the wireless receiver because it lets me toggle back to the SNES menu without leaving the couch.

Makes the SNES Mini so much better
I always found the biggest problem with my smallest console was the short cables for the supplied controllers, placing me uncomfortably close to the TV - a 55in screen at 3ft isn't the easiest to take in. This Bluetooth adapter from 8bitdo connects with my Switch Pro Controller with ease and I'm now able to sit a reasonable distance from the TV. Having been used to an Xbox controller for the past 20 years, the Switch Pro is very similar and a much more ergonomic choice which makes enjoying the classics much more fun - Super Mario World, Super Metroid et al, are given a new lease of life and I get to relive my childhood

Works Great, Gaming In Minutes - Run Updates Before Syncing
Very happy, no more playing up close to the tv or using extension cables on the controllers. Something to remember when the 8Bitdo Retro Receiver arrives in the mail: RUN THE FIRMWARE UPDATE The Retro Receiver was/is easy to update, link and use. The software is downloaded from 8Bitdo's website and come in Windows and Mac OS. Instructions are clear and I had everything linked and working on the first try. In terms of operation, the Retro Reciever works great. I use it with my SNES Classic and PS3 controller and it's a keeper for sure. I've tested a few games on the SNES and found no issue with the mapping...hence why it's important to update the firmware. Even when I switched the console off and played a day or two later, the controller and receiver remained synced.
