Q: I'm quite nervous about spending £2000 on amazon, is this nikon store official and have others purchased successfully?

Mine is a genuine official lens with the correct warranty card for Europe. Confirmed by registering the serial number on the Nikon UK website.

It was sent to me from the UK - Nikon warranty is valid worldwide I think.

Q: Will this work with DX original D5000 camera?

Yes, it will work. You will need to ensure that the camera firmware is up to date. However, this is a big, heavy and expensive lens. All three of these characteristics are because it has been designed to give excellent optical performance with a full frame sensor. On a DX camera you will only be using the central portion of this lens. It might still be worth considering if you intend to move to an FX DSLR in the future, or perhaps if you move up to the D500. If, on the other hand are staying with the D5000, or will change to mirrorless then this lens would probably not be your best choice.
