Over the years, I've worn many USGI IR flags on my uniform or body armor. It was standard when we did tours in the box. When the war started, we had the old desert-shaded US flags, and we added the "IR dot," usually to our helmets or stuck somewhere on the uniform. Later, the concept was expanded to the full-size IR flags you see today, much like this product.The function of the IR flag, or glint-tape, is to ID friendlies when using night vision. It's a great idea when the opposing forces don't have access to NVGs, but not so great when they do.This flag, which works wonders when viewed by an IR cam like the Ring doorbell, is a prime example. If you look at it unaided, you don't see much, which is the whole point. However, when viewed with a night observation device, it glows like a flashlight. I can confirm this; the Ring cam snapshot is clear. Therefore, when used as intended, this IR flag works.The craftsmanship seems good, and the velcro backing works very well. While not quite the USGI shade, you could get away with it if you wore it overseas, depending on how picky your first sergeant is. There are two flags in this set with inverted fields. Why the inverted fields? One is intended for the right shoulder, where the field must go to the front when worn, and the other is for your body armor or a hat.Me? I just wanted a replica of my old IR flag for a hat. I'm out of the whole uniform-wearing thing these days, and glad of it.Buy with confidence. Recommend.

Pretty solid patches, been holding up fairly well considering their use.
