Q: What updates have occurred to differentiate this from the 2018 version?

The 2019 updates are: Tether for the cap using a stiff TPU connector around the neck Tether for the slider using stretchy TPU connecting on end the slider to the stiffer closing lip Longer neck (5mm longer than the 1st Gen) that will allow more caps, connectors, and filters to be attached to the Vecto New threads that will allow an even more universal connection. Stiffer caps with deeper seal rings to ensure a sealed closure New slider: slimmer and lighter than the 1st Gen, even sponsoring a little "CNOC" embossing on it Clear marking on the red (or green) lip "this side in" to avoid any folding errors Slimmer and more efficient closure: easier to fit the slider but a more secure fit

Q: Are they bps free? they seem to be bpa free but apparently bps which a lot of manufacturers replaced bpa with, is even worse than bpa

Yes, the Vectos are BPA, BPS, and BPF free.

Q: The cap part leaks pretty bad unless I put a crazy vicegrip tighten on it is there anything I can do about it ? Maybe a gasket or something?

I would think about adding a sawyer gasket to it… I always keep an extra in my pack. Sawyer Products Water Filter Replacement Gasket Seals.

Q: Any weird plastic taste imparted on the water?

No I did not experience nor tasted weird plastic taste imparted to the filtered water. Do pre-wash the CNOC with a drop of Dawn dishwashing detergent and hot water before setting out on the trail.
