Q: Could this be used for a 1 gallon tank with a bubble stone?

I have it in a 15gal.tank works great. Iot of bubbles for a 1 gal.

Q: Does this work with a 55 gallon fish tank?

I have a 29 gal tank. I found that via aqua heaters work well and cost less than some others- 200 watts. I used an uxcel 12" tube with the danner air pump. This puts out a wall of consistent bubbles. Aquean makes good filters for the money. Beamworks and finnex make good led lights- beamworks are priced lower. Make sure you get a water test kit and a water conditioner- prime or others. Learn about tropical fish, often petstore sales people are knowledgeable and can provide good guidance. The Aquarium advisor provides a calculator for how many fish you can put in your aquarium with your filter and size. There are numerous articles on line about starting aquariums and selecting compatible fish. Finally, look at the python suction cleaner- it saves time and is easy to use for water changes.
