Great grinder for emergencies or for experimental baking
I bought this grain mill when panic buying had set in and we found it hard to get bread, flour or yeast from our local shops. Thankfully that issue was short lived, although flour is still hard to get, but it made me think ahead about what I would do if I can’t get any again. I have wanted a Komo electric mill for years, but simply cannot afford to buy one as they are about 3 times the price of this mill, so I opted for this Victorio mill instead. I am so glad I got this! It has turned out to be a real wee gem of a grinder! I bought it and a 20kg sack of milling wheat that had been grown in the UK and set to work! Firstly I weighed 500g of wheat and we set to work grinding it at the finest recommended setting. The kids loved it and the whole family had fun taking it in turns grinding! After 20 mins we had grinded our flour. It really is super fine, wholewheat flour, better than I normally buy at the shop. I then experimented with a fine sieve and quickly sifted out most of the wheat germ to make the flour lighter. About 50g of germ out. I then mixed and kneaded it, left it to prove, and shaped for the final proof. Just before putting in the oven I sprinkled it with water, sprinkled on a few spoonfuls of the wheatgerm I had removed and slashed the top. It baked beautifully and made the most delicious loaf! I was so impressed! I am now a wholewheat convert and have started adding it in to all my recipes, substituting about 50% white flour with my freshly ground wholemeal. Most of the time you wouldn’t even notice! I am still using it every other day, and as we are in lockdown, I have plenty of time to spend grinding my own flour! It actually only takes me 10 mins of easy handle turning to produce flour for our daily loaf. When things go back to normal and I have a school run and work to rush to everyday, I will probably change my routine and grind the flour the night before so it is ready to go whatever I am baking later in the day. The grinder comes apart for really easy cleaning and stores fully assembled in a drawer. It takes up little room. I am thoroughly happy with this little grinder - it was bought for an emergency time and is serving its purpose fantastically, but it also has won its way into my everyday kitchen activities! I highly recommend it!

Not suitable for grinding wheat
The feeding spout into the the grinder is too small for a standard wheat grain and so the grain does not move easily into the grinder. It does produce flour but due to the flaw in its width does so at a dismal rate. After using this device I was disheartened and did some research to find that the Victorio VKP1024 Deluxe Hand Operated Grain Mill was the mill I was looking for. It is by the same company but has a significantly better build quality, and output when using wheat sized grains. There are similarities between these two devices including using a similar grinding pattern but the difference in output is night and day.
