Sideways [Blu-ray] [2004]

Sideways is one of those gems that goes largely unnoticed on its release, but grows in stature over the years. It's Paul Giamatti's finest hour superbly supported by Thomas Haden Church, Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh. It's funny, sad and poignant and will make you want to go and open a bottle of red.

An understated film that many who love wine will appreciate for its humour and insight to the unnecessarily tangled lives we sometimes lead.

It said it was a comedy. One website even rated it as the best comedy of the 21st century. I didn't laugh once in the hour and a bit before pressing stop and I like my comedys. If you expect to laugh, don't. If you expect anything interesting or exciting (or anything at all really) to happen in the first half of the film, don't. It's not a film worthy of hatred but it is very dull.

I blame Rick Stein for my buying this. it was mentioned several times on his road to Mexico series and so I bought it. I like Rick. Oh my days it looks dated now - the plot is thin and it drags on and on...not my cup on tea...or pinot noir !

Very poor quality in this film, faces are blurred in many scenes, and I ordered the hd version. Shouldnt bo available in amazon store imo.

Two floored characters, a teacher and an actor, go on a week's holiday of wine and golf to "kickback" before one gets wed. It sounds a so/so premis and when my partner chose it for an evening's viewing I huffed and moaned audibly thinking of a hundred other jobs needing doing.Of course I was wrong.Hilarious in parts, deeply sad in others, the acting is superb the script is of the kind that can be watched again and again. Giamtti and Hayden-Church are brilliant double act. Giamatti the depressive "Neg-Head" teacher, Hayden Church the self-centerd actor.Catch the commentary by the two actors too. Great Fun.

This film was recommended to me as a 'favourite' of theirs, well I really couldn't see what the fuss was all about, I wasted 2 hours of my life watching it & £3.49 of money that I will never get back! I can recommend not to bother with this unless you fancy a nap whilst it's on!

Chose this as it was on a list of top films.Really undeserved.Not funny and frankly quite dull.Fell asleep.

Questo film, che pochi conoscono, racconta una settimana di vacanza in viaggio fra i vigneti della California. Protagonisti due amici, l'uno che accompagna l'altro, in una specie di addio al celibato, prima del matrimonio che aspetta il secondo al suo ritorno. Film diretto con mano leggera e sensibile da Alexander Payne, interpretato da due grandi attori, Paul Giamatti e Thomas Haden Church, che per questa interpretazione ebbe una nomination all'Oscar. Un must assoluto per intenditori di vini, un vero divertimento per amanti di un cinema diverso.

Just saw it after seeing it many years ago in the theater. Charm has not faded and the movie with its character development and dialogues is as good as it can get. When the guy explains why he finds one particular wine fascinating, we realize that he is describing himself. Payne is one of my favorite directors and enjoyed all his movies I have seen.Election is another movie which is available in India and is a comedy about school election which is the microcosm of the real election.Only one small caveat about Sideways - a few f*** words, explicit male frontal nudity, and some other adult scenes and dialogues might be too much for Indian family sensibilities. So please watch it while your children are away or asleep.

Sideways possiede veramente le qualità dell'oggetto del suo racconto: il vino, il viaggio, il sole, i vigneti.Caldo, fresco, scorrevole, pieno di piccole sorprese e soprattutto con un (retro)gusto che gli dà carattere piano piano, crescendo e rivelandosi lungo la visione del film stesso, fino a prendere pieghe che ne arricchiscono il senso e il gusto.E' un film scritto, girato, interpretato, fotografato per creare l'atmosfera perfetta, quella che ti porta dentro, ti guida, ti fa girare intorno come i suoi protagonisti, e ti fa ritrovare dove non ti aspettavi.Con la sensazione di aver viaggiato e condiviso anche tu un'esperienza con due vecchi amici.Sembra poco, sembra leggero, sembra facile. Ma la semplicità di questo film, a modo suo, rasenta la perfezione

Vor allen Dingen Jack möchte die Woche in vollen Zügen genießen, bevor der Ernst des Lebens beginnt. Die beiden lernen zwei attraktive Frauen Maya (Virginia Madsen) und Stephanie (Sandra Oh) kennen. Es treten eine ganze Reihe von schrägen Komplikationen ein.Das Ende des Films ist voraussehbar.Der Film hat viele witzige Dialoge. Er ist beste Unterhaltung. Er hinterlässt beim Zuschauer aber auch Nachdenklichkeit. Es geht inhaltlich und darstellerisch immer wieder um das Thema Wein. Auch von daher unterscheidet sich dieser Film von anderen über Freundschaften und Liebe.Der Film bekam Auszeichnungen.Je nachdem wie sicher die eigenen englischen Sprachkenntnisse sind, würde ich darauf achten, nicht die UK-Import-Fassung zu erwerben, die nur in englischer Sprache vorliegt. Es gibt auch eine DVD in Deutschland mit deutscher Sprache.

Film bello, storia piacevole, mai noioso, con un grande Paul Giamatti e una Virginia Madsen sembre brava e bella.1000 di questi film.

Just couldn't get into this movie

Wie dieser Film zu Oskarnominierungen gekommen ist, erschließt sich mir nicht.Ich fand den Film platt, die Hauptfigur unglaubwürdig, die letzten Minuten des Films sind noch das Beste.Ansonsten flach.

Sidewaysfilm da vedere in compagnia di amici, molto divertente. Se volete farvi una serata di relax con qualche risata è il film giusto

Per gli amanti del settore vino e non, bellissimo viaggio in una delle regioni più affascinanti del mondo.Consiglio la visione a tutti.

La storia di questi 2 ragazzi in viaggio per i vigneti della California, mi ha appassionato, ma c'è sempre un velo di tristezza che non ti abbandona mai per tutta la durata del film.

Davvero unico nel legare le vicende di due amici incorniciate nel mondo del vino, con bellissimi squarci californiani. Consigliato sia agli amanti della commedia, sia agli appassionati del vino !

Ein toller Film. Über das Leben, Freundschaften, Wein und natürlich die Liebe.Wird nie aufdringlich, aber keineswegs langweilig. Einfach ein geniales Roadmovie, nicht nur für Liebhaber kalifornischer Weine.

J'ai commandé ce film en blu-ray mais impossible de le lire sur une PS4 malheureusement (le film reste bloqué sur le menu).
