Is the undegraded carageenan this contains safe?

A good question. There’s a lot of confusion about carrageenan, so let’s clarify. Undegraded (aka food-grade) carrageenan is a natural food thickener derived from seaweed and there is a small amount in the softgel capsules as a plant-based alternative to gelatine. It has been used for many years in hundreds of products and is approved by the World Health Organisation, FDA and EU Food regulatory bodies as perfectly safe. The European Food Safety Authority determined that “There is no evidence of any adverse effects in humans from exposure to food-grade carrageenan”. The controversy comes from Degraded carrageenan which is something else entirely and was shown by studies to be harmful as a food additive. These studies are often cited as evidence that all types of carrageenan are unsafe, which of course is inaccurate. The two forms of carrageenan are often confused, which is why there is so much misinformation out there. Fantastic product containing 200mg dha, but please clarify what is (a) mg value of omega - 3 fatty acids..? and (b) mg value of epa..? per capsule.

Hi and thank you for your question. a) DHA (or docosahexaenoic acid) is a bioavailable form of Omega-3 fatty acid exclusively found in marine sources. Each capsule contains a minimum 200mg of Omega-3 DHA. However, as this is a natural product, there is often some natural variance. In reality, there is usually over 250mg of DHA per capsule. b) DHA is the real powerhouse of the Omega-3 family, so in order to keep the capsules small, easy to swallow and affordable, these capsules are DHA only.

Hi and thank you for your question. Schizochytrium sp. is a strain of algae found in coastal marine habitats and is naturally rich in Omega-3 DHA. These algae are cultivated in a sterilised environment and then fermented in vats of purified water to avoid the risk of any pollutants or contaminants from sea water. During this process, the algae synthesise the DHA-rich oil which is then extracted using a solvent-free process. The extracted oil is then treated and mixed with Vitamin E to prevent oxidation, after which it is ready to be filled into our veggie softgels. Obviously, there's a lot more to the process, but this provides a basic overview. Just to clarify, the algae does not come from the open sea, but farmed in a controlled environment which ensures there are no toxins.

Thank you for the question and apologies for the confusion! The discrepancy is down to a product label which has since been updated. To clarify, the form of Vitamin E used in this product is dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate which is added to protect the omega-3 fatty acids from oxidation.

Good algae alternative

I got these when I transitioned to a vegan lifestyle and I was happy to find algae was an alternative option to fish oil. These are really easy to swallow and although they have a mild taste (think seaweed) it's fairly pleasant and passes quickly. Everything on the label is clearly written and the bottle was fully sealed on arrival. This is a reliable supplement brand and these are good quality ingredients, high in omega 3 which supports heart, bone and brain health. A decent supply for a decent price.

Brilliant

I have an allergy to anything that swims in the ocea. So I looked for alternative to cod liver oil. I found this i have to say I do notice a difference when I don't have it. Its great value at a great price. I would highly recommend this item. Also keep in mind I suffer from HEDS & osteoporosis. So for this to make any difference is amazing.

The goodness of Omega 3 without the horror of fish oil

Hochdosiertes DHA, genau wonach ich gesucht habe! Ausgezeichnetes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis Die kleinen Softgel kapseln machen das schlucken sehr einfach und angenehm. Besonders mag ich, dass dieses Produkt nachhaltig ist. jeder weiss, dass die Meere total überfischt sind, mit Schwermetallen und Mikroplastik belastet sind und somit sind diese in riesigen Behältern gezüchteten Algen nicht nur für Veganer, die bessere Alternative. Llegaron perfectamente envasadas. No tienen mal olor en absoluto, son fáciles de tragar y de digerir. ¿Funcionan? Quiero pensar que sí aunque hay que esperar tiempo y hacerse analíticas para ver si realmente te están haciendo efecto. Relación calidad-precio, de las mejores.

Es gibt keinen Fisch Nachgeschmack und lässt sich gut schlucken. Ergänzung 21.12.2022 Ich nehme seit über einem Jahr nun täglich die Kapseln und bin mehr als zufrieden. (Stillzeit) Es gibt wie versprochen keinen Nachgeschmack oder Fischaugen Geruch. Die Kapsel lässt sich ohne Probleme mit Wasser leicht herunterschlucken und man ist bestens versorgt. Eine klare Kaufempfehlung.
