Philishave HQ200 Jet Clean Solution - 300ml

Amazon are the cheapest for this item. (Mine was delivered the next day with the "free delivery option") This is a necessary item if you have a Jet Clean system. Each bottle fills the reservoir 3 times. As I clean the shaver under hot water every day, I just use the Jet Cleaner once a week to give it that freshness and lubrication. So one bottle lasts me 3 months. I am going to add a little IPA IsoPropyl Alcohol (99.9%) to my future bottles, just to make sure the fluid sanitises better, as I believe it doesn't contain any sanitiser as such.

Very good price, and I would like to forward my tip for making the solution go further.when the solution has been standing unused for a day carefully pour off the clean liquid into a glass until you get down to residue that can now be discarded,now pour back from the glass the clean solution and top up with fresh. This product does exactly what it is supposed to do! However, it is clear that Philips are making a considerable profit from repeat orders. I think the product should be sold in a larger container and hence the price could be markedly reduced. I fear this will not happen!

Does the job but it's a shame it's so dear. A 300ml bottle is just enough for 2 tankfulls and if you change the solution every 2 weeks as recommended, it works out at about £1.25/week or £65/year. I've not looked at how much the replacement cutter are, which they say need changing every 2 years. All in all, expenses you don't expect with an electric razor.

It does what it says on the label. Set your shaver running and immerse in this solution (perhaps using the special device that comes with some Philishave models) and get a shiny, crud-free finish. I use it only once per week, and change the solution perhaps once per month, so the bottle lasts a reasonably amount of time, possibly 6 months.

I bought this as it is recommended by Philips and have used it for about 6 yrs. It does exactly what it says cleans and protects and I think it helps to keep the blades sharp. There is a new version out with a perfume added which I am about to try but this seems better value.

This product is a must for the owners of the razor. I am convinced that it has extended the life of the blade set.

This is as much a review of the Jet Clean system itself as it is the HQ200 solution, partly because you can't use one without the other and partly because I can't review the Jet Clean on its own. I got one of these systems with my Philips 8000 series shaver, which thankfully is also washable because rinsing it under the tap seems to do a better job of cleaning it than the Jet Clean does. After a tedious 4-hour cleaning cycle, I was surprised (and a little disappointed) to find that there was still mess around the shaver head, both inside and out, not a lot but more than I ever got with tap washing. I seem to have one of the more basic Jet Cleans, which has no option to vary the duration of the clean, so I can only hope that the more advanced ones fare more favourably.There's also the matter of the solution's disinfecting agent, or (more accurately) the lack of one. Philips make it clear in their product literature that the solution doesn't sanitise the shaver at all, probably because it's water, not alcohol, based. The purifying benefits of alcohol are obvious, as shavers can harbour bacteria if not cleaned properly, but on the other hand some people have sensitive skin that could be agitated by rubbing an alcohol-coated shaver against their face. I used an alcohol-based solution with my old shaver and found it as easy on the skin as this one, so I would have preferred it if some kind of disinfecting agent had been added here.When you combine the solution's inability to sanitise with the lacklustre quality of the clean, it makes me wonder just what it is that I forked out a fiver for. It does lubricate the heads nicely, but I think I'd be as worthwhile washing the shaver under the good old tap and then occasionally lubricating the cutters myself using either dedicated shaver oil or some other light machine oil. Perhaps I've been a bit harsh on the stuff - I suppose it could just scrape 3 stars - but at £5 a pop I'd expect a little more for my money than something that just made my shaver smell of diluted washing up liquid.
