The new material and comfortable fit does reflect the - Adam's apple swallowing price point.

I am a six foot, six inch guy who goes on lots of back country adventures. I purchased these to explore moving from synthetic clothing to natural fibers. After a summer backpacking trip in the Colorado wilderness and a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, I am very impressed with these boxers. Smartwool definitely lived up to their sterling reputation with these boxers. Washing them in rivers and lakes got them clean, though the washing was out of habit. They were odor free and didn't cause any chaffing or crotch-rot. After a few months of wear and washing, they are showing minor wear faster than cotton or synthetic underwear. The wear does not affect comfort or performance. I dry them on a hanging rack overnight and they are dry by that time. I will continue to buy these boxers as they are an excellent solution to my high adventure underwear needs.

Merino is my best choice for travel underwear - long or short. Very comfortable, I have worn it from about -10C to +45C. Washes easy by hand and dries in 4-6hrs in warm and dry conditions. Hang straight and don’t need (critical for travel). I travel with 3-4 pcs and wash about every other day. Very expensive for underwear, but helps travel light, comfy and clean. Hint: avoid underpants without front opening if using motorcycle or ski or similar suits/overalls.

About 6 months ago I bought a pair of Smartwool underwear I will say they are very comfortable although I was a bit uncomfortable spending $50 on pair of underwear. My entire life I’ve just bought the cheapest value pack of Hanes underwear at Walmart and they have done me right I’ve got pairs that are 4 years old still going strong. This leads me to the Smartwool pair I got about 6 months ago. They already have a big hole in the crotch with very minimal wear and I feel as if I spend 50 dollars on a pair of underwear they should easily outlast the cheapest underwear at Walmart. Unfortunately that’s not the case, even though I’ve had great success wearing their socks for years now but I digress. 50 dollars almost feels like highway robbery at this point I’m about 95% sure I could spend 50 dollars on value packs of underwear today and never have to buy underwear again in my life. If you’re considering buying this you better be rich, or never spend 50 bucks on this pair of underwear.

This is the best pair of underpants I’ve ever owned. Bought them originally with hiking in mind, because you can’t always change your pants, and wool stays fresh longer than other fabrics. I already knew wool wicks both moisture and odours, after wearing wool socks and shirts on the trail. And now, by testing out these pants and others similar, I’ve proved to myself that woollen underpants are borderline miraculous in that respect, so I’ll never wear any other type again. In September, I ordered wool pants from 4 different brands on Amazon. They were expensive but all impressed me. Those from Dilling, though, felt on the tight side and the wool coarser. Those from Brass Monkeys were excellent but the waist band is white on the inside and has an annoying logo. The best two pairs were these from Smartwool and the Anatomica ones from Icebreaker. Since then, those are the only two pairs of underpants I’ve worn, and both have proved awesome. But the Smartwool pair have the edge for me because they've a fly. And the fly’s so well designed it doesn’t compromise the smoothness of the fit or cause any rubbing. When I inspect these and the Icebreakers today after over 4 months of use (averaging over 2 months per pair), they both still look brand new. I’ve been handwashing them very gently, using a little organic liquid soap--no wringing, just rolling and squeezing. Treated like this, they’ve stayed in beautiful condition, with no rubbing, frays, dulling, or pilling. So, therefore, despite the price, they’re starting to prove good value. With merino pants, well cared for, one can reduce the old pants collection considerably. My cotton ones have all gone to recycling now, opening lots of space in the drawer. I no longer have “best pants”, because quality merinos can be worn for all occasions: at home, at work, for sport, for hiking, for dates. So, apart from anything else, they’re a minimalist’s dream.
